I have the 4.4 TDv8 and it does the same thing, it will drop down a couple of gears sometimes just to pick up say 15mph which it could easily do without changing gear at all.

Many thanks, I looked all around there, saw the 2 wires on the other side and assumed that was a sensor moulded into the radiator.

Wherever it goes it didn't seem to affect anything!
