agree the engine is fantastic.
BMW and Mercedes however seem to develop more efficient and powerful engines year on year....but without the associated "cost".

re the point in having an FBH, I accept you have a point of view that they are not necessary - we are all entitled to our opinions. But for me, once I have it, and have paid for it, I expect it to work.

I am not sure what you mean by common sense. You want the FBH to work when you really need it, so a rational person will test it. If it won't do the job in mild conditions, then it isn't going to do the job in really poor conditions. That is common sense, no?

In my MY10 Vogue SE, I was both commuting and using the vehicle ad hoc. In the winter just gone, if the heating via the timed climate control had not worked, or had failed on demand when I pressed the remote fob...I would have had serious words with the dealer. I am glad to say that the heater on the MY10 always worked.....although it had a habit of setting off the alarm if the vehicle had been double locked. Internal movement of the air set the alarm off..so it needed a software upgrade.

my point of view is different from yours. If the FBH were not standard on the vehicle, i would have ordered it as an option. When working properly, they are great. I am a massive fan of them. And as such, I am more disappointed than most if they don't work properly. But each to their own I suppose.

re the fuel consumption. the best way to reduce fuel consumption as much as possible is to reduce power, reduce engine size, reduce weight, reduce speed, reduce drag and friction........etc.
do you think people who spend 80K on a FFRR really worry that much about 1 or 2 mpg? do you think they are all driving at 60mph on the motorways because they are trying to save fuel? From what I observe, the average FFRR owner spends more time in the fast lane than he does in the slow.

Apologies to FFRR owners out there if you spend more time in the "slow" lane. (I always go back to the "slow" lane myself once I have completed an overtaking manoevure and when it is safe to move back to the left....)

The bikes are not vintage, but they are thief magnets. The lovely old 2 seater Merc on the other hand..... Very Happy

I think some insurance companies say having a RR on the drive is actually a thief deterent. RR owners tend to have someone at home during the day.....

I'm not sure it is Official yet. But from what people seem to be hearing from their Dealers - the expectation is that something will be done to fix the issue at some point.

I'll certainly update if I hear anything more.

The new batteries and software were in production from late February so your friend will not be part of the recall AFAIK.

Think it might be official as I have had mine taken in on Tuesday, and had not suffered any problems to date. Was told the there was a notifiaction from LR last week and they needed to do this and other changes. Mine's one of the first MY2011 models I got in November.

As an aside the courtesy car is a RRS HSE, and it's a pile of cr*p, how horrible and cheap it feels and drives compared to the FF. My wife actually took the car in and picked up the RRS, when she got home told me she hated the RRS and how noisy, rattley and uncomfortable it was. I had to try it out and totally agreed when comparing it, the FF is in a completely different league. Wish we'd got a Disco instead, think it's a more honest and worthy car. Want the old girl back now.

The new battery and software that was available from early March is not working / fixing the problem.

LR have now released a more significant software upgrade. My dealer told me that today he installed the new software on a Vogue SE as part of the PDI' ! It took 3 hrs to install.

So if your vehicle left the factory this week, it will probably need the new software, but it will already have the AGM battery. Am not sure from when new vehicles will have the right software. And who's to say this upgrade will fix the problem? The last one certainly didn't.

For what it's worth, IMHO, the problem is not with the battery. It is with the monitor, the charging, and the old software. The software upgrade will apparently affect 5 pieces of kit, including the HVAC and FBH.

My vehicle - mid march delivery - is having the software (second upgrade ) done next week. I have asked the dealer to find out EXACTLY what is changing, but he says LR are being tight lipped.

I have called LR direct, but person who answered the phone was in denial about the problem.

The issue is not a dealer one but a LR one as having had several conversations with my dealer, who I know watches the forums, their hands are tied by LR as to what they can and cannot do.

I picked up my SE on the first of March and have had a std battery fitted and then the new battery fitted on the 19th April with all the updates done at that time - apparently it took some 3 hours to update.

Anyway, it was ok for about a week untill we drove to Edinburgh on the 28th April - some 120 miles and then on the "Royal Wedding" day Michelle was watching the TV whilst I was driving and on the 30th the warning message came on again.

Worse still, we did over 160 miles on the 30th and then left the car parked up till the 2nd and when we went to start he not onld did we get the message but she would not start Exclamation Big Cry Exclamation

A quick 30min charge and away we went but the warning message has appeared a couple of times since so she is back with the dealers today for a few days.

Must admit the dealers are trying very hard but god only knows what will happen in cooler times when the FBH is going to be used and the lights are on etc etc.

The other thing is I bought a vehicle that has a TV/Radio that did have a decent time limit to watch/listen when not switched on or running - that has now almost gone as have several other tihings that I could do prior to any update and I daren't leave her unlocked for more than a few seconds if I open the door for the above reasons so washing her with the radio on is out from now Exclamation Exclamation "UNDERSTEER" ----is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" ------is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" ----is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" -----------is how far you take the fence with you.

I have a related question for the MY11 owners. I have never had the battery message nor has it failed to start but every now and then when I go to start it, depress the brake and press the button, nothing happens. The instrument panel lights up but the starter motor doesn't crank. However if I try a second time, it flies into life. Anyone else had similar? MY2011 FFRR 4.4 TDV8 Vogue, Santorini Black and Ivory *Arrived*

i had that happen when i had a flat battery, so had tried to start it 3 or 4 times then given up, put it on charge for a few hours then when I came back it obviously had power, seeing as all the gizmos switched on, but wouldn't crank. seems I had depleted the vacuum in the servo, and had to push down really hard on the brake to get her to crank. weird cos I thought it was just an electrical interlock, but perhaps there is a brake pressure signal that has to be seen to enable the cranking?

so I had another fix yesterday......

the problem is still there.

Put the thinking cap back on please Land Rover. When problems take too long to sort, you damage customer loyalty. You can read all about it in the June Land Rover monthly.....it's on page 159.
