But Scarey - the 4.4 V8 isn't in production in 2011...

come on guys
MY11 Vogue SE
comes in two versions
one diesel, one petrol
the petrol is not 4.4 V8

and as for ordering it from new?
FBH is standard equipment.

and i thought the whole idea of pre-heat...was just that, pre-heat. Either to the cabin before you get in, or if really really cold, to pre-heat the engine before you start it.
I can't imagine the FBH adds anything to warming the engine AFTER it has been started.
Now I am not a techie...but that just sounds plain daft. The engine once started will probably only warm up marginally quicker with the FBH also on.
And it comes on automatically?
really?

there's a massive thread here that might go a little way of explaining the FBH and how it works, not sure whether its applicable to the 2011 versions though..

and some stuff on our wiki as well..

Sorry I assume you would have selected the 'TDV8' option on the forum like other owners including myself.

Yes FBH is standard for Diesel engines but the 4.4 V8 engine choice you have selected refers to the Petrol engine that ran until around 2007.

The FBH is programmed in that way and if it didn't add anything to the vehicle then simply Land Rover wouldn't have it doing that. In theory a second small 'engine' is running in addition to heat the coolant fluid and therefore help the car reach to its most efficient.

Rambles - refer to the wiki which Scarey has pointed you towards. At the bottom there is a section on Td6 vehicles and the same process happens with the TDV8 engine.

The TDV8 option is also the same option for the 2010 model. Which was a 3.6.
Either way, if you chose TDV8 or 4.4 V8 for the MY11, it is clear to me it is the TDV8 4.4. diesel.
The petrol is only in 5 litre.

Coming back to the FBH.....i suspect mine would work perfectly if there was only enough power in the battery.
If the radio in my RR shuts down to preserve the battery, what chance does the FBH have of operating?
Not very much......

The car is doing what it's supposed to do. It will shut down the radio to conserve battery. Porsche, BMW, MINI all do the same.

The FBH will of course operate if it needs to when the engine is running...once the car is started it will charge if it needs to. This won't make any affect on the battery with the engine on.

so they changed the design from the MY10 to the MY11 which what goal in mind?
just to annoy customers so they stop buying LR?
oh yes sir....all that kit that costs hundreds of pounds....completely unusable.
yup - we designed it that way. clever, aren't we?

and do you know what sir, some people even believe us when we tell them it was designed that way !

ROFLMAO !

Sorry Rambles but I think you're just trying to wind everyone up. We are trying to help you and can only tell you what we know or have been told. I personally don't have the need to use the FBH when it's been over 15 degrees for a few weeks now. If you have issues then I think it's best to contact your dealer to let them know how you feel.

actually I think you're trying to wind me up.
Statements like "we all know that.... " are completely ridiculous. Speak for yourself. Some other people on the thread seem quite happy to use their FBHs.
the fact that you are just regurgitating what you "have been told" is evidence to me that LR dealerships will try to tell some customers that black is white - and that some of them believe it !

"Excuse me sir. That FBH. Costs several hundred quid that. But completely useless you know.......You still want it? How about 2 of them? Good....good choice sir."

And yes during the day, the last few days have been lovely and warm. Is it a hardship in such weather when it has been chilly in the morning to do without the FBH ? Of course not. But chilly has been an opportunity to test whether the kit works in my car. And it doesn't. Bit like if you tried the climate seats and found they neither heated or cooled. "oh sir....you want working climate seats? oh but sir, don't be silly. They're just for show. we all know that no-one really uses......"

hahahhahahahahaha

I find that my front and rear climatic seats work perfectly well actually and as my FFRR is garaged I havent needed to use the FBH and am not able to with the car being inside because of fumes. I know the FBH works because of what I've described before. Have you had a dead battery Rambles?

ah, well there you go. Mine is not garaged.

For those people who can predict their usage - perhaps because they commute - the ability to set the FBH in advance so when they get to their car it is warmed up and defrosted, could be useful.
Do you know what...LR thought of this and installed a timer for the climate control. Very useful for me it was when I have been commuting knowing that on a very cold frosty snowy morning, the car was warming up....without me having to go outside first and turn the engine on and leave the car unlocked as it warmed up.
Insurance companies don't like that sort of thing you see.........

Could I put it into my garage? No, because the mercedes and motorcycles are in the garage.

Have I had a dead battery before? Yes.
But let's come back to your garage....if the builders had built the entrance so narrow that you could fit no vehicle into it...and they said to you, "but sir, everyone parks on their drives these days....and we all use garages now to store stuff....", you might not have been best pleased.

at least in your most recent post you seem to have temporarily stopped quoting my last post back at me as if i had forgotten already what i wrote.

at least you are back to "I" rather than treating yourself as "everyone".

No but that's why I had my garages specifically designed to take FFRRs...

As I have said before, the use of the FBH does require common sense. There is, as you say, no point setting up timed climate if you aren't using the car at the same time each day. There is, in my opinion, no real point in having the FBH at all because the HVAC system is good enough to have the car warmed up/cooled down very quickly indeed.

Re you comments about quoting the previous posts, I'm pretty sure you're just trying to be funny and re-instate the points made by Scarey yesterday. I find it easier to quote.

As to your comments earlier regarding the design change from MY10 to MY11/11.5 , these were all about promoting efficiency of the engine and to reduce fuel consumption by as bigger margin as possible. I'm sure you can agree that for the size of the engine, the efficiency is pretty fantastic and this has to come at some cost.

Epic fail. Unless you have beautiful vintage merc and bikes. But even then...
