Hi Dolphinboy

You’re right about the journeys, for example, today I have driven 120 miles at 50 miles each way on the motorway sat at 60MPH on cruise. Soot value increases rather than decreases meaning if I did a journey of say 200 miles I would most likely be at a red warning by the end of it. Next step for me maybe then is to change the thermostat housing as that is still the original one looking at it.

Rob, looking forward to the updates you have coming, hopefully your getting on better than me Thumbs Up

Greg, sadly despite numerous temperatures of above 600c my soot level drops only by .1g at a time. Looking at what you recorded in your post it would seem that you saw big drops over a 20 minute period. 2011 TDV8 Vogue SE

If it helps at all, I can definitely say that once the temperatures reach over 600 C, then soot levels fall over the next few minutes/miles quite rapidly, so much so that it is very difficult to grab screenshots showing what actually happens, but this picture explains what I believe is a correctly functioning Active regeneration.

I watched the iid live values on my iPad very carefully to be confident to be able to give an accurate report of the sequence.

My soot levels had been getting higher and higher because of my short journey usage., but I have never allowed my readings to get high enough to trigger an Amber DPF alert.

The reading of 199g peaked at just over 20g and the temperature of bank1 sensor 2 hovered around 400/ 450 C for a couple of minutes/miles but then fairly rapidly went over 600C peaking at 620 C for the next 4 -5 minutes/miles when the soot levels fell fairly rapidly from 20g down to single figures and bottomed out at 3.4g when the temps started to fall fairly rapidly to less than 400 C.

I hope this helps to describe what I believe is a correctly functioning sequence.

Dennis, Check your thermostat too. It may be over-reading as mine was.
Do you notice your fan is on much?

According to the IID tool my coolant temperature is reading 92 degrees but as you say, this could be mid-reporting. I can’t say that I have heard the fan running constantly but then I have had this issue for so long and the car appears so quiet when driven it’s hard to say. What I did notice was whilst waiting for the engine to get up to temperature after fitting the new coolant hose, the viscous fan was turning slowly rather than at full speed, I would say that means as far as that’s concerned it’s operating normally. 2011 TDV8 Vogue SE

Yes and I cleared my DPF today, took 20 mins from 19g down to 0.5 using the DA-DPF dongle.

. Cheers, Greg

New air filters
Cleaned MAP sensor (the one in the donut)
Bypassed learning on EGR and turbos (on a diagnostic plug in by the indie)
ECU software updated
Checked DPF pressure sensor - all ok
Still not regenerating

DPF taken off and vapour tested. All clean. No action required. Refitted with stout clamps etc.
Vehicle told it has new DPF fitted
2000 miles later. All fine so far.
Regenerating properly.
Temps on Bank 1 sensor 2 up to 650 when regenerating.
Soot levels drop quickly Very Happy
Fingers crossed it’s working ok now Thumbs Up

That's great news Rob, hopefully your friend can now fully appreciate his Range Rover.

Sadly mine appears not to be that simple but I'm persevering. Further repairs/investigations will have to wait a bit though as other things are taking priority 2011 TDV8 Vogue SE

The only thing I can think that might have done it is the EGR and Turbo values cleared (or whatever he did) and/or ECU update.
We can't pin it specifically on one thing but fingers crossed it's working OK Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

I have toyed with the ECU update via the service that GAP offer. Not sure how I could clear the EGR values though, would be interesting if anyone on here has done this or knows how to do it 2011 TDV8 Vogue SE

@GGDR

Hi Greg I have been trawling through an old post of yours regarding the infamous bank 2 sensor 1 EGR temperature sensor, you mention a diesel smell at idle and a temperature showing on the IID tool of 100c even with a cold engine. I have exactly this but without an error code being shown which has got me thinking that perhaps the sensor can go faulty but not report an issue. I was able to get the DPF regeneration option added to my IID thanks to Pat @Gap and tested this out today but I was still unable to force a regeneration. The option appears to be able to start a regeneration at 30MPH and an engine temperature of 60c so a useful addition when it’s finally released.

Reading the issues with replacing the EGR temperature sensor seems like a nightmare job but I think replacing mine will allow me to tick another box at least. My coolant temperature is between 95c and 97c depending on engine load, so for now I’m going to assume that side of things is working as it should.

On a positive note, I no longer get any Restricted Performance messages coming up so it would seem I’ve finally managed to resolve any induction leaks I had Thumbs Up 2011 TDV8 Vogue SE
