I am eventually playing at upgrading my head unit, having had the new one sat in a box for 6 months! (house move, work etc), but 'cos I want the sub to work I will install a 6 channel amp and crossovers (will better protect the speakers from giving them the wrong frequencies)....Will keep posted but I am near Cambridge (St Neots), so when fitted Kineavy can come and judge, if you like I can fit for you, but let's not get carried away until mine works!

ive had a look at the Erisin ES1153B 7 although it says for x5 i assume its ok for a 2004 rr ?

can you buy an add on to make it DAB ? and do i need extra caballing ?

The reason that unit is cheaper that the other is that it is not an android unit It will do just about everything that the android will do with one exception you cannot add apps to customise the unit to your liking... basically if it doesn't do it though , But having said that if all your looking for is a functioning upgrade to the Range Rover system it will more than do that, with a lot more bells and whistles too

As for DAB I don't think that Erisin produce a DAB unit at all.... that's not to say that you couldn't add one via the aux input but you'd end up with a separate controller for channel selecting  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

thanks for the reply, didnt but read the listing properly, but as you say the android part isnt needed for me, it also says the steering wheel functions will still work which is cool, not sure if the multi changer will still work ? will i need any other leads ie: longer power cables or ariel leads

still very impressive price, when you compare to whats on flea bay

None of the existing system will work.... but that does mean that you can sell the cd changer, nav head , radio, amps, tv tuner, etc. but you will loose the clock setting function except by pulling the fuse and replacing it at 12 o'clock.

Failing that you can ditch the CD changer, move the nav screen / midi unit to the glovebox and use a cd emulator to connect the new unit, but it is doubtful as to whether the steering wheel controls will work with the new unit.... but you will still be able to use the DSP from the factory set up... handy if you've got the logic 7 system  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

I think before you do anything you should read this thread and the other one with a link on page one and fully understand what you are doing and what you need, all the information you require is there.....


The non Android ones (and some of the early Android ones) have very small processors and the speed of them will probably irritate you...

I agree with all the above, but for only a tiny amount more I would always choose the better unit, especially as the install of either is intense. As for the clock I have already decided that it's not needed and I will fabricate a two usb plug extension for iphone connection to go in it's place.

firstly sorry for the questions.....my rr is 2005 but only just (January 2005) my sat nav screen is also a touch screen does this make a difference to wiring or head unit needed ?

i have been reading a lot but think im starting to confuse myself

As yours is touch screen which is MOST system you cannot use the above systems. John
