I replaced my own filter at 115k miles, and the filter was still clean The filter itself is not a particularly fine filter, it is more of a strainer, to catch big lumps of debris from the gearbox. But if there are big lumps of debris inside your box, then an oil change is the least of your worries I would still (and do) advise the filter should be done at 150k, but its not essential. However, on the FF, it is a ring of bolts to remove and replace, unlike the D3/RRS, which require the engine mounts to be released, and various crossmembers get in the way... The moral of the story is, that the LR service interval on gearbox oil is way, way to long. Stick to the gearbox manufacturers service intervals, and you will be fine |

It's the same oil, it's now marketed under the Mobil brand name, instead of Esso... As long as it's the LT71141 it's fine.... ZF lifeguard 6 is the one you want, myele also do the same product but as it is a similar price I would stick with the Zf fluid.

So, how do you change your gearbox filter the day before you flush it? Doesn't make any sense as you have to drop the oil to change the filter! Far too many owners of these flushing machines tell you "you don't need to change the filter" but imho thats non sensicle! Would you do that to your engine? and no i don't believe for a second, its just a strainer! Else why have it as a serviceable item? You don't change the strainer in your engine sump at service points now do you! |
