is that the one they call the mega death flush, also heard that they don't change your filter, scary

also heard that the power pressure can damage old oil seals within the box.The ZF video on you tube says just drain change and fill , if your gearbox is working fine id be very worried doing anything outside of what ZF suggest

I believe you have been misinformed Whistle

The pressures involved are lower than the gearbox produces itself, whilst driving. The flush procedure uses the gearbox oil pump, to push the old oil out. The flushing machine measures the volume of old oil coming out, and automatically replaces it

The damage comes in the new oil, acting as a detergent, which cleans the old crap out of the oil galleries, bushes and seals.
A normal drain and refill will do exactly the same thing, but issues will not be apparent for a longer period, due to the reduced volume of new oil

The official service interval from ZF is a FLUSH every 80-120,000 Km's, or 50-75k miles, and 8 years at the very latest, depending on driving style. It is also advised more frequently if you do a lot of high speed driving, towing, or sporty driving.

FWIW, in over 80 gearbox flushes I have done in the last 12 months, I have never had issues with a gearbox afterwards.
But, I have refused to flush a few, due to various issues/high mile cars

Thumbs Up

And your thoughts on NOT changing gearbox filter Mickey?

If you are planning on doing it yourself you can buy a 20 litre tub for £140 which is pretty much what you would pay for 14 separate tubs you will need for 2 flushes, that way you can do 3 flushes and a filter for £200 there will be very little old stuff left after that and a big saving on the 'powerflush' !!

where do you get the 20 ltr tub from, not seeing it on ebay only 1 ltrs

Really ?? Mobil? this isn't the one that ZF and everyone else on here says is right, would you risk it ?

I appreciate your comments , especially as you appear to do this for a living. Tell how much approx. is a flush?

on the ZF you tube video it does not show a flush just a drain and refill

I'd love to, but it appears my post has been edited by a mod...

I replaced my own filter at 115k miles, and the filter was still clean Thumbs Up

The filter itself is not a particularly fine filter, it is more of a strainer, to catch big lumps of debris from the gearbox.
But if there are big lumps of debris inside your box, then an oil change is the least of your worries Wink

I would still (and do) advise the filter should be done at 150k, but its not essential. However, on the FF, it is a ring of bolts to remove and replace, unlike the D3/RRS, which require the engine mounts to be released, and various crossmembers get in the way...

The moral of the story is, that the LR service interval on gearbox oil is way, way to long.
Stick to the gearbox manufacturers service intervals, and you will be fine

Thumbs Up

It's the same oil, it's now marketed under the Mobil brand name, instead of Esso...

As long as it's the LT71141 it's fine.... Pete

There are some good deals on multi purchases of 1ltr oil and pans/filters on eBay.de Pete

ZF lifeguard 6 is the one you want, myele also do the same product but as it is a similar price I would stick with the Zf fluid.

It is also pckaged in Zf bottles, Lr bottles, jag bottles and Bmw as well as they all use the same box, so a search around under these brands should lead you to a suitable one. Alternatively Dan at duckworths can sell you a service kit with filter and fluids There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

So, how do you change your gearbox filter the day before you flush it? Doesn't make any sense as you have to drop the oil to change the filter!

Far too many owners of these flushing machines tell you "you don't need to change the filter" but imho thats non sensicle! Would you do that to your engine? and no i don't believe for a second, its just a strainer! Else why have it as a serviceable item? You don't change the strainer in your engine sump at service points now do you! Whistle
