Now you mention it, I did see a nice second hand one for sale somewhere around here. I wonder what HMS Customs would say if I rock up with a VLCC full of premium unleaded at the cliffs of Dover and attach a fuel pump to it Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Rolo,

Tried something for you, drove a mile, parked up and sat for 20 minutes stationary with the engine on, the avg went from 19.6 to 18.5 ....

The most significant advantage the 4.4TDV8 has over the Supercharged is the gearbox. It is far far superior and the reason why it performs so well in terms of economy in traffic is that when stationary in Drive, the gearbox disconnects 70% of the drive.

Let's face it, there are always going to be SC vs TDV8 discussions. If it wasn't for the 4.4TDV8, I would have gone V8SC because I didn't think the 3.6TDV8 was as well refined. To me, petrol isn't practical at the moment and the difference in performance isn't that great. The 6 Speed Auto in the V8SC which I believe was in the 3.6TDV8 wasn't too smooth in terms of gear changes and when I drove the two back to back the 8 Speed Transmission was light years ahead.

Superb, if you're getting this much aposed to the "official figures". If I had thought I could get that, I may have considered petrol too. When I looked at the mpg shown, I didn't even bother to try one because as a general rule I've never gotten what the book figures give on any vehicle, so I was really thinking I'd only get 10 or 12 round town and 20 - 22 on a run. Giving those averages of about 1/2 what the diesel could achieve, it just made no sense for me because of the type of driving I do. I'd have to stop & fill up every couple of days Confused

I'm certainly delighted with the diesel, but if you can get 18 - 19 round town & I'm only getting 20 - 22 with the slightly higher diesel price, not much in it then. If I'm stopped for longer than 1 - 2 mins, I usually always put into neutral anyway.
BUT, I think you must have a very good engine if most others are only getting 14 - 15 as an average....... Crying or Very sad

just an update on mine, I was shocked to see after doing about 650 miles my average speed has been computed at just 17 mph. No wonder I'm only getting 20mpg Shocked

So come on you guys with an SC, what would the mpg be doing that average speed ??

It'll be interesting !

But, I wonder if I could get on an open road and crawl at 17mph for 650 miles, I bet the fuel eco would be fantastic, probably 35 - 40mpg.

It seems my problem is all these damn roadworks & town driving / start / stop / red lights, roundabouts ! One minute I can do 50mph, then down to nothing for 20 mins.

Can you imagine an electric range rover - the battery would go flat & stop Rolling with laughter

My TD6 is doing around 25.9mpg, occasionally creeps up to 26.1mpg. This is a mixture of urban, country lane and motorway over a distance of around 27 miles each way.

Frodsham to Wortley and back up, this was on the M6 Toll.

Absolute torture... drafting wagons at 50-56 all the way there and back.

This was on my drive way after a 390 Mile round trip.



Since then it's gone down and down and down lol it's currently at 16.9 (my 20 mile round trip home to work is mostly A road)

As an intellectual exercise with copious use of neutral on the downhill sections it's cool, but... never again! as long as the journey seemed as least it was comfortable.

EDIT: the lower figure included my commute for 5 days.
