Right, I was being a numpty and not for the first time. I did not press down on the brake pedal enough which the manual does mention 'in certain conditions' should be firmer. Ignition on for 60 seconds to prime and then crank.

10 cranks later it still will not fully catch, then the restricted performance warning lit up again.

Rewind and re-group: I have just changed a fuel pipe and a sensor on the LH fuel rail.

There is no fuel leaking. Could it be that I have not correctly torqued the union nuts and it is letting in air? The manual specifies 10Nm + 80º or is air coming in via the new sensor? - no fuel leak here though.

I do not have a spanner/torque wrench attachment to measure torque on a nut so as the pipe is not expensive I will order another one and seek a tool to do the job. 2012 Vogue TDV8 in Aintree green over sand

Another play today. I have not been able to make SDD work with the Mongoose cable, as expected. However, I did update the firmware in my cheapy code reader and that connected OK. Why did I not do that earlier?

Same as before, cranks, briefly catches and dies immediately. Then restricted performance displays.

The fuel rail pressure before crank is around 248 bar rising to around 300 bar on cranking. According to the WM it must be at least 150 bar to allow a start - no issue there then.

Reconnected the battery and no codes in the reader but now it says DPF full on the dash.

I think the next step in this palaver is to carry out the TSB regarding the fuel pressure sensor harness mod. Mine does not have it. Without any meaningful codes to go on I am clutching at straws somewhat but it does not look too bad a job, even for me.

I managed to achieve a little at lunchtime. I know this isn't going to be the issue but for the sake of £40-ish it's worth spending to rule it out.

As expected, the modified harness has made no difference but I don't appear to have introduced a new problem. There are no codes stored on my Autel reader.

I spent a few hours last night trawling this and other fora and I think the next stage is to check more of the fuel system. Correct fuel pressure before crank does not mean enough pressure to idle, from what I can tell. Today I had 279 bar with the ignition on before crank.

Therefore fuel return, fuel filter, fuel tank, secondary pump, etc, etc are all in need of checks.

With the Xmas break quickly approaching, some travel to other parts, general relaxation and low enthusiam for this thing currently, I think I will postpone any more work until the new year. After successfully buying a stolen and locked GAP tool from eBay (promptly refunded and thanks to the good service from Patrick at GAP - do not buy serial number 20D-9857), I have managed to buy one from jimdonut of this parish. Many thanks Jim for the speedy delivery and communication. Top man.

It is now registered to my chassis number so I plugged it in for a play. A couple of dud codes IMO probably down to low battery voltage as they won't clear. Certainly nothing I am concerned about or what would stop it starting. It is on charge now.

The next step is to tidy up the harness heat shrink wrap, ensure the battery is at full/nearly full charge and go for another crank whilst checking live values. I am pretty sure I have drained the entire interweb for my issue to no avail so I am on my own (unless I give in and recover it to the garage).

The weather has been acceptable today so I have tidied the aforementioned harness and it is now in the supplied conduit.

I have rechecked all the connectors. I disconnected the couple of sensors to see if they throw codes and they do, so I can learn a bit more about the GAP tool. I need to RTFM to learn how to record live data. Anyway, I tried another crank and now it does not catch at all, it just turns over.

I saw a spike of 600 BAR at the initial crank and then it settled at around 320 during the cranking, so to me, that is fine - I think. I tried 3 long cranks and left it at that.

The infamous P040D EGR temp sensor is present but that won't clear and I don't think it would prevent a start from reading other threads on the matter.

Next steps: Learn more about the GAP tool live values and how to display/record/interpret. I think I have to go back to basics and start at the back:

Tank pump to low pressure pump should be 0.5 BAR (this is confusing to me as it is half an atmosphere - vacuum?).
Low pressure pump to high pressure pump should be 4.5-7.0 BAR
High pressure pump values are known and within spec (assuming there is fuel coming out - would it record pressure without fuel? I don't know). 2012 Vogue TDV8 in Aintree green over sand

It seems my battery has had enough and will no longer hold charge. My CTEK charger threw the error at position 5. It is flat as a pancake. Great.

I have an invoice from the fitting indy of a genuine LR battery in April 2023. I am not hopeful but there is no harm in ringing it on Monday to see if there is a warranty. Sigh. 2012 Vogue TDV8 in Aintree green over sand

these beasts need a positive message back from the ABS control module for the car to crank from the "Start Button" inside the car

they also need to see hydraulic pressure in the ABS system, you may have to bleed the brakes again to make sure this is not the problem for the no crank off the "Start Button"

to rule this out you can buy a second hand ABS Control Module off ebay for £20 quid , the part no is CH322C405AD


also, just a thought - you have an Autel and IID scanner, for fun you could also try to trigger the starter motor using either tool ( I'm not sure if the IID tool supports this or not, but maybe someone on here knows, or just email Patrick at GAP)
