Are you sure the leak is not the pipe at the rear of the oil cooler? That’s a common place to leak.

Yes, the turbo oil feed is all dry. I think previously the rings were changed. Because I can see that someone undid the oil cooler gaskets from unmatched bolts which are on now. 2011 Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Hi all, came across this forum whilst trying to research/locate an oil leak on my 2013 4.4 sdv8.i had the oil cooler gasket replaced back in December 2021 and all was well until about 6 months when an oil leak was noticed on a service. I got what seams to be an intermittent oil leak towards the front of the engine somewhere between the throttle body and drivers side valve cover, it can go days with no leak, then a slight leak and then lots dripping from everywhere under the drivers side of the engine, when it leaks it's also spray oil up onto the engine cover (lots of oil it's soaked) and the bonnet when cover removed. I've check all inlet pipes, egr, valve cover and anything else that can be tightened and tried looking for it whilst putting the car through different rev ranges but can't locate it. Not sure if it's related but when driving if I drive hard enough for the secondary turbo to kick in it blows a puff of blue smoke, but once the smoke has cleared i can continue to drive hard and no smoke. I don't think the oil leak is a turbo seal as the amount it's losing I'm sure the tailpipes would be constantly pumping out blue smoke so wondering if anyone has experienced this and have any ideas what's going on as I'm completely stumped now.

Did you find a fix to this mine is leak oil in the same area front of top engine bay

After 2000 km trip, I have a lot of oil on the engine cover where the throttle body is. Before the trip I put 3 o-rings on the air inlet connection to the throttle body, as described on this forum.
It looks like oil was squirting around as it has reached innner side of the bonnet.

Is there anything else in this area which can spray oil all over the place?`

On the weekend I will undo the air intakes and have a better look. 2011 Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Hi all, I checked mine this morning after noticing oil on the bottom of the undertray - no smell or dripping but is obvious if you look around the engine.

The oil cooler was replaced 6k miles ago but I'm not sure if the o-rings where done at the time, it looks a bit sticky - would you suggest replacing them? Cheers!

Hi all,

I recently changed oil by draining from the pipe on the oil pan. I am pretty sure I pushed in that quick connector as much as I could but It is very slowly leaking.

I guess there is o-ring in the quick connector which I could maybe replace? Does anyone know the size or a partnr for it?

thank you all 2011 Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

How have people managed to tighten the 14mm bung on top of the oil cooler?

This one to be exact -

I've managed to get to it, but I can't get a 30CM allen key that far down, and I'm not sure a socket will fit?

Cheers!

Just a quick update to say I managed to get access to this and (hopefully) seal it all up! I took the throttle body off in the end, which was the easiest way of getting a long 3/8 extension down as with the TB off it's almost straight down.

With a 14mm hex socket - it was a tight fit but I managed to feel the socket onto the plug by feeling just behind the idler pulleys, and then sealing it up.

Went out for a bit of a drive today and it was still dry when I got back so fingers crossed!

Coolant hose seal gone

Hi all, I had a coolant leak on my 4.4TDV8 which I located to the drivers side of the oil cooler….

So with the help of this post and LRtime video I have just replaced the cooler.

Now with it back together (not fully thankfully) I have confirmed that the seal in the angled coolant connector has worn and can’t hold pressure.

Does anyone know what size this is please? OD of the spout on cooler is 17.5mm width of old seal 4mm but it is flattened.

Update:

I took the old seal to Simply Bearings in Leigh and the closet match they had was below.
Installed which proved to be a little bit tricky and needed a pick to encourage it to place snugly. It’s held pressure within the guidelines in the WSM and fluid has not dropped on a trip to Swansea this weekend.

Hey Guys,
Just an heads up on where to buy alternate"O" rings unless you want to buy genuine at exorbitant prices.
Cat part number 464-0509 which is 1.78 mm section and 9.25 mm id Viton. $7 Australian each.
Regards

Just picked up 4 of these, My son in law has a Cat dealership so a cheap solution. I had the vitron, although the bearing service may not have supplied vitron, and found that the O rings went hard and leaked after 10,000 k's. The cat O rings are Blue and are not rubber, also have a high temp and pressure rating.

So will have to do the replacement and see if this resolves my leak. My car is L494, purchased new 2016 and now has 230,000 k's. Have had a good run , I tow a large van, best tow vehicle one can have IMO.

Hope the update re O rings helps some one as much as this thread has helped me.

Well, decided to do my o rings yesterday as I had the oily smell. Managed to overtighten the securing bolt and snapped it off so a new oil cooler has been ordered.
Not the end of the world, but a pain in the arse; on a positive note, it looks like the oil cooler seal was shot so I would have had to do it anyway.

Well managed to get it done before the weather set in. With the excellent thread over in the wiki, it wasn’t too bad a job. Managed to butcher an electrical connector but otherwise reasonably straightforward and if there were a next time, I’d probably be able to do it an afternoon.

Top tip-get a magnetic 8mm and 10mm socket, or use blu tack.
