For anyone interested, here's some thermal imaging of the seats, not perfect as it was a hot day and part of the passenger seat was in shade so the thermal 'background' skewed the heating / cooling distribution images

As noted above, failure of the backrest Peltier block prevents heating of the base but allows cooling, the drivers seat base has had a hard life so will benefit from a new foam base & foam cover, hopefully this will also improve the air distribution but it's a 'at some point' job.

Waking up the thread, hoping someone can help me diagnose exactly what has failed on my driver's heated/cooled seat.

My symptoms:

Cooling works (although I'd say the back doesn't seem to blow like it used to but I have inspected the unit and it seems to work fine and no damage. The unit also looks relatively new sugguesting this has already been replaced). Heating does not work and will then shut down that seat's circuit and then heating or cooling won't work until next ignition cycle.

My error code:

Following the workshop manual:

This fault code says to follow troubleshooting C. As the fault indicated seal, I worked in reverse and have inspected all ducting and all is in good order.

This leaves the Peltier cells themselves.

The workshop manual says to check the blower units are between 290 and 420 K ohms.

The workshop manual says to expect the temperature sensor to be between 0.9 ‐ 1.2 k ohms at 22 C.

Measuring with the multimeter, my seat base blower measured 6 M ohms. I couldn't get a reading for the TED - it just showed open loop.

From the multiplug below the seat base, I couldn't get a resistance for the seat back cell motor but I did get 0.7 k ohms @ about 18 degrees from the TED so, this seemed about right.

My questions:

- Aside from all of this, what's the most common failure it's most likely to be?
- not sure if it was earlier cars but I thought the temperature sensor is in the seat base peltier cell and not the back?
- both the base and the back fans operate fine on cooling but the seat trips when I move it to heating and both cut out. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

I first thought mine was the base peltier but it turned out to be the ducting in the seat backrest fitted a new one and back to fully working, a lot of your faults I also had so always worth checking the rear ducting first as its relatively easy to get too in comparision to the base unit which I had in and out like a yoyo Rolling with laughter when I first took the rear cover off the ducting looked fine but on closer inspection it had a large crack in the plastic at the back every time the seat backrest moved sometimes it worked ok but then off again.

Hoping they will arrive this week.

Are these repair kits still available? I want to get on and fix the lack of cooling on my seat back. Base is OK so I suspect cracked ducting on the seat back one....

Heater repearing.
At the same time I swich driver and passenger seats (only seat bottoms of course). The reason is avoid too much wear out of the driver seat corner. Now the seats looks like new (LHD vehicle).

Dear,

If you need to change only the plastic part, you could find on Ali exp ... with the reference hhk500060.
The cost is just few euros and avoid tape and silicon ..

Seat Disassembly

With the help of this thread I'm sure that I have a cracked plastic duct but I cannot get the seat disassembled to remove and inspect.

Can anyone provide any more detailed advice about how to remove this white plastic piece at the seat base on my 2012? I've read other posts saying that there are tabs to press on each side but I cannot locate them or get it to budge.

Thanks so much -- really looking forward to getting the heated seat working again!

It shows you a photo of the tabs on the white plastic bit when removed from the seat, so you know what you're looking for.

If your ducting is not broken, the most common failure on these seats is the Peltier unit. If you have a multimeter, unplug the multiplug to isolate the assembly from the rest of the loom and measure the resistance between pins 1 and 4 (the blue cable and the yellow cable) from the Peltier unit. I've replaced a number of these for people now and almost always a failed unit reads between 900ohms - 1kohm between pins 1 and 4. A healthy unit should read between 0-10ohms between these pins. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Thank you so much - that photo is exactly what I needed to be able to feel the tabs.

Can anyone verify where the control module is, or even better post a picture. I have a 2012 supercharged with no sign of life at the controls and an empty compartment with connectors under the passenger seat, in the plastic covered cubby.

There is a control module in the plastic compartment under each front seat. It clips into the holder. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8
