Re this particular issue I also have a rear engine leak as is well documented in the preceding posts.

I am considering as a pre emptive move to replace the two O-Rings with Viton types at the rear of the engine and to do the oil cooler gaskets as well given that removal of same provides easier access to complete the primary O-Ring job itself.

My vehicle has just clocked over 133,000Kms so it may constitute a cheap insurance investment ?

I have 2011 RR full size Vogue 4.4Ltr TDV8 diesel

Any thoughts welcome

cool thread i just noticed a smell of oil after a run!! so will order o rings and do the job over xmas. if the oil cooler is leaking the dealer can have it back to fix that puppy  2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - Current

Thanks for the replies JayK and Graeme I have replaced the two rear O rings with Viton replacements which was relatively easy with bonnet in the service position and have ordered a new oil cooler as my main go to man who is a guru has stated that the factory cooler unit for some reason almost always fails but when replaced but he has not seen a subsequent failure.

The factory may have implemented an engineering upgrade to this component ?

There are a couple of good after market brands but stay well clear of cheap chinese copies[size=18][/size]

Rather than replace the whole oil cooler, just replace the two internal gaskets. The oil cooler rarely fails, just the gaskets need changing, did that on mine and been perfect since. Will save you a lot of money too, gaskets are around £30 all in but a new oil cooler is a lot more.

just had my oil cooler replaced. the internal gasket had gone (and been jammed up with some sealant and gone hard at some point by someone). I initially asked for just the O-rings to be replaced but the chap said he would look at the internals first and then make a decision. They can go internally and by the time you've farted about paying for the oil cooler to be removed (unless doing it yourself) its was as cheap to have the lot replaced.

The oil cooler still has the original part number so hasn't been revised as LR always allocates a new number if a part is revised. This includes the gasket because if a new gasket was in use then the oil cooler would have a new number.

I used high temperature silicone sealant on the new gaskets that I fitted because I expect the new gaskets would go the same way as the originals. A non-genuine replacement cooler is likely to use non-LR gaskets which may last longer, but may last less time too. If mine fails again then I may try a non-genuine cooler unless LR have revised the gasket part numbers by that time.

So cheap thought I'd get some before I even looked at the job, but sure enough they were clearly leaking.





Not the easiest job when you're only 5ft7, found myself pretty much on my knees on the engine. Relocating the pipe itself is easy, but could have done with a second pair of hands to raise and lower the pipe slightly in order to rotate the flange and so line up the bolt hole. However got there in the end. Top tip on here re using blu-tack in the socket so as to not drop the bolt as that would have been a real pain. Just got to clean all the oil off the engine now and check for further leaks. Ran out of light today.
