Well......half way in, on my 2nd day and wish I hadn't started!!!

Cant get the unit to power up, can't find the aerial connection, can't figure out how to connect the TV unit (dont think they've sent the right connections).

Why did I think I could do this myself?! Big Cry

Hi Angela.

It may not be powering up due to the same issue your original unit is not powering up.

Do you have power on the actual connector in the car ?

Not fitted one myself, so don't know exact specifics.

I'm sure Pete or one of the other peeps that have fitted it will be along soon.

I take it you are trying it all in the boot before you rip the car apart......

You will get there......

Thank you, have calmed down a bit now thankfully!! Smile

There is power to the unit (checked with a voltmeter) then found that the unit flickers and lights up when I put my headlights on. CLEARLY done something wrong somewhere!! Rolling Eyes

Bow down Pete to the rescue, am going to pay him a visit tomorrow. Disappointed I've not managed it on my own but don't want to risk breaking the unit so am admitting defeat. Embarassed

Yep,

Pete saved the day, makes a good brew too Very Happy

Very nearly there now, just missing a cable for the TVs unit but finished feeding the cables tonight so just the dash to put back on once everything's connected.

Annoyed because I appear to have broken the glovebox latch, but such is life! Will find a fix for it I would imagine.

So chuffed with the unit, it's fantastic! For anyone considering getting one go for it, despite my wobble with the fitting side of things I'd say it's well worth the hassle.

Thanks to all for help and advice Smile

Was an interesting one.. the inline suppressor on the 5mtr lead had a poor connection, badly soldered wire, heat left on too long and had burnt the PCB.... (done by the supplier not Angela) that got the power going but still no sound... traced to a short in one of the front door speakers, luckily the amp within the Android unit has a cut off and prevented it getting burnt out, left for a few minutes, it started again and now works fine....

Nice to meet you Angela... when you've finished make sure you clean it out, it was a disgrace... Whistle Pete

Long-time listener; first-time poster here. What a great source of information and many thanks for taking the plunge so that the rest of us can follow along.

Has anyone tried (or know anyone who has) these Android head units fitted to a Rover with the Harman/Kardon Logic 7 amplifiers. I have a 2004 Westminster with navigation and the H/K Logic 7 system. From what I can tell in the RAVE manuals, the Logic 7 amplifier sits between the radio unit and the "factory" amplifier. Screenshot below, and link here. This, I think, would mean that the Logic 7 amp is working from the 4 traditional speaker outputs of the radio and that the Android unit should be plug n play, no?

Main problem with using the standard amp is that it is switched on via a can bus signal, I would imagine the HK uses one as well so can't see it being plug and play unless you keep the old head unit to switch it on and off... some have put it in the glove box in place of the CD changer and just left it to switch on and off with the ignition and this turns on the amps.... Pete

^^ Wot he said! Hi ya Pete Bow down

All the amps use the canbus the turn on and off, I have been looking in to using a CD emulator to input the sound in to the DSP, using just the line outs from the new head unit. But as of yet I haven't had the funds to afford the new head unit Embarassed , the Censored ffrr keeps on sensing when my project funds are topped up and then it throws an expensive fit Evil or Very Mad Last time it was the EAS compressor that got in the way, D'oh!

In theory it should work, and there will be volume control from the steering wheel, but how much more control can be accessed from the wheel is yet to be put to the test.

I'm very loathed to do away with the DSP as the system sounds so good, and if I'm honest I have Ipod and blue tooth already, so the only gain for me would be TV/DVD. And as far as I can tell the nav system on the new head is at the same level as the present system in my ffrr, all be it easier and cheaper to upgrade maps. But as I use my ffrr for business towing, I can see me sticking with my Tomtom, as it can guide me around traffic! And there is a real possibility that it will be upgraded with the Goods Vehicle version, so it stops trying to send my through 7 foot width restrictions with an 8 foot wide trailer Censored Censored Banging Head Banging Head Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Hi, and thanks for the replies.

I should have said in my prior post that I do not have the DSP option so I don't believe there are any digital signals in the mix here. As far as I can tell, the Logic 7 amp is driven from the factory radio "outs". I thought, from reading elsewhere, that the Erisin CAN bus wire could turn on the factory amps as they describe it as a plug and play head unit.

I'm going to email Erisin today and request a quote on the same package that Haylands used. More to come...

From what I can make out the DSP and Logic 7 systems are almost the same, only the logic 7 has surround sound speakers and all the speakers are of a better quality that the standard DSP system, i.e. DSP is 5.1 and Logic 7 is 7.1.

The only way to run these systems is to intercept the 4 speaker outs from the BM54 Radio / Amp and change them for the speaker wires from the new head unit or use a auxiliary input adapter and feed it with the line out from the new head. Both methods will need the old head unit to be moved in to the glovebox and require the old system to be turned on to power the DSP / Logic 7 Amps. And this is where the untested bit comes in to play, as I do not know how the old and new head units will react to sharing the steering wheel inputs. As the canbus is effectively a data ring that every thing taps into, they should both function as they are only looking for a signal, but it might have some repercussions with the volume control on the second method, i.e. as the new head unit increases volume there is a chance that the old one will do the same, causing the volume to ramp up very quickly. But as I said I have not had the funds to play as of yet Sad Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

What a thread, amazing info, thanks all

I have a 2002 vogue and radio is crap (more likely antenna as signal is terrible, only barely picks up radio 2), cd changer is dead and the factory head unit/sat nav is pretty awful looking!

Im going to go this route now,rip it all out and hope it sounds pretty good. I want to keep subwoofer (or a new one) so guess i need cable for the sub out?

Im keen to have reverse camera, tv as well.

Could i also feed 2 rear dvd sceens (the kids have them mounted to rear headrests) so we can change dvds from head unit mid journey instead of having to stop? Kids are too young to reach/change theirs themselves. I guess wires might be a tad unsightly but its just till they are able to change it themselves, or hold dvds in hands etc

Off to email crystal now for price. Hope you guys still around if i get stuck! Im in hamilton near glasgow, but from bolton so often pop down to englandshire (hint hint)

Thx again

Paul C

There are AV out plugs on the unit so it should work...

My radio is crap on the new one, the aerial lead came from Halfords and I think it's very cheaply made and allowing interference through, I used quality cable on another one I did and it worked great... maybe your aerial amp is bust....

Winchester101, did you get your TV unit sorted out??? Pete
