United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Westminster TDV8 Orkney Grey

Almost about to buy one of these. Just a quick few questions though, to anyone already using theirs.
1. Does the nav, when in use, allow radio or say, iPod playback, and it automutes on next spoken command? And obviously still shows map etc? I will obviously not see the current track title, just the map details. But it automutes, yes?
2 it boots up in about 20-30 secs, I think from reading... If I was to turn off unit whilst booting, like to quickly start stop car, and then restart, there's no extra need to help unit boot, like windows, 'boot as normal, or safe mode'?
3. I could leave an iPod in glovebox, and it would, when car started, (if iPod still charged) report its song collection to unit without playing with iPod menu/screen.?
4. I can add a reverse camera, and it will auto switch the main screen on, when selecting reverse. When wired in?
5 the DSP style vogue speakers will all work ok for now, till I maybe upgrade them to some component aftermarket nice ones, but I assume, all speakers in car still work? And sound ok, (stereo, not DSP of course.)
6. It's the best thing since sliced bread?

Thanks.
I see the current one on popular sale, is android 4.2.2 there are also similar ones, 4.0 (I won't be buying ) that have just four buttons each side, unlike this one with 5 each side, plus the knob.

1. yes
2. no
3. Unfortunately it won't run an IPOD unless you can find some app to do it, it will take a 32gb micro sd card full of songs and it works great and remembers what you were listing to...
4. yes
5. yes
6. I'd say better for the price...

4.2.2. is best, has a much bigger processor as well

PM me for my phone number if you want a chat about it.... Pete

Hi Pete,

I'm a newbie to the site and also modifying range rovers!! So please bear with me Confused

I've got a 2003 vogue, The radio isn't working which I suspect (although not certain) is because the BCM is in transport mode due to a recent dead battery. Am looking at getting it fixed but I'm pretty underwhelmed by the head unit that's in and this post is an answer to my prayers! have read loads of negative ones on other forums about how its really difficult to get an alternative because of the DSP amp etc, and was told by an auto electrician to just buy a replacement Range Rover head unit which I was loathe to do because I just don't rate it.

Anyway I'll get to the point! Could you possibly give me a list (ideally with links so I know I'm getting the right ones) of exactly what I need to buy based on your first post to install this in my car?

Also, will it work if the current amp isn't working? (That's my initial guess as to why the radios not working, the sat nav and everything else on the head unit is ok)

Apologies if some of this is unclear, don't really know what I'm talking about but learning as quick as I can!! Laughing

Angela

I have put this on this thread before but it's getting a bit long now so here it is again

Email Crystal at erisintechservice@erisin.com

Tell her you want what Peter Hitchcock had and you should get what you need and a price

The unit was a ES9753A but these numbers tend to change....

You cannot easily fit it with the DSP amp so if your is broken it doesn't matter

See this thread for a how to fit it...

http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic29219.html

If you want me to fit it for you send me a PM... Pete

That's brilliant, thanks very much both! Really appreciate it. Had already spotted the fitting guide, really good detail so hoping to just follow that.

I emailed Erisin and they replied to ask if

http://www.erisin.com/erisin-es069-audi-vw..._p390.html

was the fakra I need, is that the right one?

I've got a quote for the unit, the extended aerial, the digital TV and the touch screen option and they quoted me £330 including delivery etc which I thought was great. She also asked if I needed the 17 pin or 40 pin but am I right in thinking I don't need to know that if I'm not using the RR amp? apologies if that's a stupid question, still trying to get my head round it all!

Hi Angela,

you will need the 17 / 40 pin extension lead if there is any thing in the boot cubby, on the passenger side. Which being a Vogue, should have several modules in there!
The 17 / 40 pin connector that they are asking about is on the BM54 radio / amp, and is nearer the wheel and stacked on its' side along with another unit.

It's the unit that you can't quite see, which has the large bundle of wires going to it, inboard of the TV tuner with the Blue and White plugs. The connector that you want is the one with all the cables coming from it, you need to disconnect it and check what it looks like. It will either look like this

The plugs in your unit will also have a small white / black or blue plugs in the bottom, sorry couldn't find any pics showing both with the extra plugs. This is what the 40 pin plug looks like when it's full

Hope this helps

That's brilliant, thanks Miggit! Will have a root around tonight, it defo does have the satnav unit etc in the left hand compartment so will check which plug it is.

Do you know if the link to the Fakra connector is the right one also? just don't want to order the wrong one.

Despite the fact I know practically nothing about car electrics and it will no doubt end in disaster I'm actually pretty excited about trying to fit it myself! Surprised

It's the 40 pin plug you want and no that fakra is the wrong one, there is only one connection for the aerial, if they can't supply one they do them in Halfords for only a few quid....

Good luck with it, the hardest part is taking the FF apart to hide the lead.... Pete

Thanks again Pete

Have now ordered without the fakra and will just pop to halfords once the unit comes.

I will drop dead in amazement if I get through it without having to ask you loads of questions to be honest, but at least want to give it a go! Wink
