New Zealand 2010 Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 SC V8 Galway Green

If I didn't have a machine shop available, then I would go the grinding down route. But since the shop is there and they always have 1 or 2 apprentices working, I like to give them the practice Smile If I had the machine shop close, I would probably do it myself, just see if I haven't "lost it". MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

I cut off the original top to be flat, then cut a piece of mild steel that fits nicely in the slot on the car. it's getting welded in place today by a mate, I'll pick it up later - he was hopeful that he might be able to top it off with some solid PTFE so when it engages it doesn't damage anything on the car.

I've already tested it with the steel balanced on the top and it works fine, lifts the car a treat.

Pictures and dimensions when I collect it -hopefully this evening Thumbs Up Geoff

I wouldn't worry about that SS as the slot it goes into is a hard Rubber/Plastic to protect the sill anyway and easily pops off if you want to replaced it Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I don't seem to have the option to upload pictures anymore it started but didn't finish, probably operator error Very Happy but when it comes back I will.
The key dimension is the rectangle viewed from the top should be 30mm x 55mm the 30mm is really tight but you could happily be a bit over on the 55mm - say 57mm maybe. Obviously if you get a measurement from someone who has bought the official BMW bit they would be the ones to use. Thumbs Up Geoff

The finished article, no PTFE just a bit of rubber belting to offset any imperfections Thumbs Up Geoff

^^^ Thats very professional looking. Thumbs Up

For those wanting to make an aluminium adaptor to fit on trolley jack these are some of the dimensions.
The circular disc is 63mm dia and 11mm thick.
The rectangle on the top is also 11mm thick.
Sorry I don't have the dimensions of the rectangle itself but mines buried in the boot at the moment beside the spare wheel, if you had asked yesterday.....
If you wish to fit the adapter on top of a Merc jack you need to drill a 16mm dia hole in the centre of the base, 16mm deep.
You can secure the adapter to the jack using a pin if you wish but I just use mine loose so that I can also use the adapter with a trolly jack.

A wee tip to those of you replacing the top of the jack.
Don't press down on the ram without the top being on. It makes one hell of a mess as oil squirts up the side of the ram and all over you. But do not fear as all that has happened is the cup seal has popped out of its outer sleeve. Just pull it back up and try and get all the oil from the wrong side of the seal by using the jack, blowing with an airline or any other way you can think of. I stripped my jack down thinking I had stuffed it but it was all ok.

I made a fitting out of 65mm dia aluminium bar in my mill and lathe. It took far to long but like much machining work was enjoyable.

I've just picked up my 2.5 tonne bottle jack today from Bolton (as per ebay) £20! A great price if you can collect it yourself, he has plenty left. Just thought I'd let everyone know if you are still looking for one.
Ta, Chris.

I had to use mine with the original top on it as I haven't changed it yet (lazy bastard indeed) and that worked fine as well, no visible damage to the jacking point. Getting the adaptor fitted is now priority, will do it when the new solenoids for the gearbox are here Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
