I'm trying to retrofit a Bluetooth ULF Module in a 2003 4.4 Vogue.
I got a second generation BMW module with part number 84 21 6 938610 and fitted it this morning.
I have the wiring loom factory fitted, although I seem to be lacking something for the white/purple end of the aerial lead to plug into.

Aside from the aerial, when I plug the connector into the module it blows the 7.5amp fuse (number 22 I think it is) for the telephone in the glove box fuse box. Also, when the connector is in place, all the audio systems shut down. As soon as I disconnect from the module the audio system, including the main screen, comes back to life so I know something ain't right there.

So questions:
1. Has anyone seen anything like this and may be able to point me in the right direct of where to look.
2. Could it just be a duff ULF Module and is there a way to check?
3. Where does the white/purple antenna connection plug into?

STOP.... you will do big damage to the module and poss to the cars electric, you cant just plug the bmw ulf module in...your wiring loom has to be re-pinned, the telephone loom in your car is not ment for the bmw module even know the plug will goe in, i dont have the re-pin chart to hand but its not hard just critical...do a serch,some one may have it on here.. V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

Once the fuse blew I removed the the connector until I could do some research on it.

I'm having a scan around the other bluetooth related threads but now I know what I'm looking for.

If anyone has the re-pin chart then it'll be handy but I'm off for a search. 

Search for the site l322.com in the internet archive (wayback machine). You can still access the re-pin chart there.

Nothing ever disappears completely once it's published in the internet...

I found the re-pin chart in one of Marks threads, just need to dig out the electrical manual to make sure I've got the right pin numbering.

Steve, do you have a link at all to the l322.com archive? I searched on Google but found nothing.

It also looks like I need the antenna as I can't find one in the rear of the FF.  

The pin numbers are on the actual connector body when you take it apart.

The blue connector slides apart to give 3 single rows so you can see the pin numbers......

Just resurrecting this thread again as I finally got around to re-wiring the plug and fitting the antenna, mic should be here tomorrow.
Sadly it looks like I did blow something in the ULF box when I plugged it into the original wiring.

Just to check, I re-wired the plug as per this guide, I take it that's the correct one?

On the screen the "Telephone" button is white but when I click on it the button depresses and then just stays there. Also the fixed red light is on at the top of the screen, meaning "Connection not possible". So I assume it's a duff ULF box?

I'm going to have a look around the Bay or E this evening an try to get a newer one that the 3rd generation one I've got now but any advice is welcome.  

I've a feeling you aren't the first or the last to plug a ULF in without doing the rewire first.

When I did mine, if you got Telephone on the screen, it proved there was power and earth, and that the ULF was being seen on the ibus.

Nothing else happened until it was paired with a phone, and the aerial and mic etc were on.

Having the red light on doesn't seem normal at this stage.

When I pressed Telephone on the screen, it came up "Activate Phone", as it was trying to pair with the previous ULF owners mobile.........

Hope its of some use.

I'd try and substitute the unit if you can.......

Failing that, you may have to source another.

Think its either version 5 or 6 that allows Voice Recognition.

It will have "MIT SES" on the label.......

Have you paired your phone?

-With the ignition off, press and hold the pairing button on the cradle (not the wheel).
-Hold for 5 seconds, then turn the ignition to the accessory position, the monitor should say 'Bluetooth Pairing' and the small LEDs on the monitor will flash.
- On your phone, search for bluetooth devices, select the BMW one and enter the 4 digit pin that is on the part number sticker of the ULF.
- You should hear a beep and see 'Pairing successful' or some such.
- Cycle the ignition to exit pairing mode, see if your phone connects.

I had another look today.
I tried pairing but nothing happens, when I turn the ignition to the first position I just get the normal screen, including the telephone button and fixed red light.

I do have a question about the wiring: when I did mine the wire in position 2 on the original, which is now in position 32 for the pairing, is white but the chart says it should be red/yellow.
When I connect the pairing wires, turn the ignition on and then disconnect the wires after a couple of seconds, I hear a "click" from one or more of the audio speakers in the car. I don't think this is correct and I'm wondering if I've got something mixed up while changing the connections?

The connections I've ended up with are as follow:

1 - White - was in 54
11 - Green - was in 38
15 - White/Grey/Yellow - was in 13
17 - Red/Yellow - was in 25
19 - Brown/White - was in 52
21 - Black - was in 53
32 - White - was in 2 (Pairing)
33 - White/Green - was in 47
35 - Violet/White - was in 12
36 - Brown/Black - was in 34 (Pairing)
37 - Black/White - was in 18
38 - Brown/Black - was in 17
51 - White/Brown - was in 29

Can anyone with a 2003 Vogue confirm that this is correct, or list what you've used?

I wrote the pinout chart you linked to in a previous post and if you have followed those correctly it should work fine. I did this to two different vehicles without issue.

As already mentioned the fact that the telephone option is now white and not grey or even missing denotes that the ibus recognises that there is a ULF/telephone module connected. As nothing happens when you select it I think there is every possibility you have fried your ULF!

In searching for a replacement I suggest a Gen 6 or newer but if you want the latest smart phones to transfer the phone book you really need to hold out for a Gen 13.
