I am not sure we can say there is cover up or lack of transparency on this. Land Rover have recognised the problem and published that the affected VIN range is 195780 - 228236.

They have started doing recalls in other countries but yes, if it takes a death for them to do anything about it in the UK due to the lack of litigation culture, this is shameful.

Fenair, comiseraitions for you. It's a bit of a disaster. But I'm glad to read that you and your family are safe and well. Like you say, it could have been a whole lot worse. Fortunately, these failures seem to happen when turning sharply at low speed, touch wood. Kev

The minister responsible for DVSA is Richard Holden, MP for NW Durham. With Canada (and maybe also the USA) doing a recall on this LR are clear about the need for it, but are doing nothing in the UK either because they don't have the parts or they just want to avoid spending the money. There seems a case for lobbying Richard Holden to get DVSA to force the pace on this. I think one cannot email direct, it has to be through constituency MPs, but they will pass the matter on pretty promptly. It would probably have most impact if done by someone actually affected, but anyone concerned about this important safety issue could do so. Only Range Rovers since 1988

Evoque/DS steering rack recalls started in Canada, then eventually made its way to the UK. And our customers who we replaced racks for before the recall was active have been receiving refunds from JLR Thumbs Up

Keep the pressure on JLR, with enough pressure, they might just recall it in the UK too Thumbs Up

Fair comment, I didnā€™t specifically mention JLR, just the culture in this country to bury heads in sand and ignore issues until they are pressing. Knowing there is a problem, and doing nothing about it is negligent, espicially when lives can be lost, think about Grenfell. ā€œIf it ainā€™t broke, donā€™t fix itā€ -whereā€™s the fun in that?

Ummmm, sorry to be a little pedantic but arenā€™t we drifting just slightly OT here, gents?
Rather than discussing the limitations of MPI, shouldnā€™t we be discussing the extent of the current situation with respect to knuckle failures Worldwide, and the lack of UK response to our valid concerns from either JLR or UK government?
I donā€™t think we need MPI or other tests to prove anything, there are documented failures which clearly prove parts have failed, potentially putting lives at risk. It is up to the vehicle manufacturer to prove that all affected vehicles have been abused or malmaintained in some way, and in fact, given that most of the affected vehicles will likely have a FLRSH, it again possibly would reflect back at lack of JLR service training in any case, were that to be the situation.
This is potentially an eventual lose-lose situation for JLR, and I wonder what if any design changes have been made to the same part in the new L460, -anyone with a new vehicle got any pics? A change would tend to point at an admission of some sort, and conversely by implication, a lack of change would not show the L460 in good light as a potential purchase, if that is so.

An informative statement from JLR in the interests of transparency would be most welcomed by current owners and potential purchasers alike, Iā€™m sure. ā€œIf it ainā€™t broke, donā€™t fix itā€ -whereā€™s the fun in that?
