Mines a 2014, and I have just checked the proposed recall N759 on the online service history and it doesn't mention it for my car.
I've read through most of the 45 pages of this thread, and from what I have gathered, it would appear to be certain VIN numbers between 2013-2018 which could relate to batches of the knuckles.
Speaking as an engineer who has spent 40 years in aerospace/military design its is not a good idea to use a split clamp arrangement where you can sustain vertical and vibration loads, I certainly wouldn't use aluminium (unless using LM series grade cast aluminium) and possibly over torque the clamp, you can see alot of the cracking on the opposite side to the bolt.
Aluminium is more susceptible to fracturing as it does not have the elasticity of steel.
Regardless I reckon either no FEA was done on this part, or an inferior grade of aluminium was used, not uncommon when getting it made in India.
LM series aluminium has good corrosion resistance and is often used where salt air corrosion can be a problem on aerospace parts.

My thinking is that when Tata took over Landrover in 2008, they directed most of their manufacturing to be done in India.

I recently bought (3 weeks ago) a 2016 L405 5.0 SC and found out about the recall about a week ago as it popped up in my Carfax Car Care app. Went out the other night to inspect the knuckles as my car falls into the VIN range and production dates and low and behold...Driver side cracked. Call closest dealer (4 hours away) and they couldnt tell me much other than bring it in for a diagnostic check. I agreed and asked about what we do after that and they didnt know. asked if they had a time frame for parts, didnt know, asked about continued driving again they didnt know.

so called JLR USA and they recommended calling another dealer to work with, so called next closest dealer and its 5 hours away other direction and they asked for VIN, pics, contact info and such.
Gal talked with service manager and then contacted regional person and are working on a plan to get me fixed up.

I know what dealer I will not goto again...I bought my first Range rover from them back in 2001, a 1996 4.0 SE. They didnt even have me in the database anymore.

I am currently changing tyres and unfortunately i seem to have a cracked ftont knuckle as well.
How dangerous is it to drive it back home? It’s a pain to take it to the dealer and leave it there over the holidays but i dont feel very nice driving it either

Just found out my front nearside knuckle is cracked. Mines a 2013 SDV8 so not in the VIN range. £780 for a new one.

I’m repeating myself for those who haven’t read this whole thread:

Don’t worry, -do something about it!!!

Get an aerosol weld crack test kit, and test your knuckles with it every 6 months, or however frequently allays your fears. Better than nothing.

Google “Aerosol Weld crack test kit” or search on eBay, around £15-£20, plus an hour of your time, you don’t even need to take the wheels off, just chuck a rag over them.

No excuse for not doing it before you let your loved ones in the vehicle!

These cracks take a long time to propagate, so best to catch them early, by the time you can see them, it’s almost too late! “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Just out of curiosity:

How many of you have noticed cracked knuckles only after you have become aware of the potential defect and have thereafter started to periodically inspected them?

How long did it take foir the cracks to develop?

My vehicle falls just out of the VIN range of the officially affected ones being manufactured in April 2016. I haven't noticed any cracks so far with the naked eye or running my fingers over the metal.

The car was in for a free dealer check up this October and they only advised me to change the lower suspension arms at some stage. Obviously they would have lured me into getting the car repaired/serviced if there would have been something obvious. They even washed my car and got free LR-valve caps

Mine (2016MY) was also just outside of vin range and I checked them in minute detail when the recall was first announced. Roll on to this October and noticed both cracked (o/s very badly) when changing discs and pads. Fortunately JLR replaced both and also the o/s driveshaft they destroyed whilst doing the job, their official line was outside of recall, but done under goodwill. I know people on here in a similar position haven't been so lucky and have been left to foot the bill. L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.

I think you may have misunderstood my previous post:

If you can SEE a crack, it’s already TOO LATE, DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR!

The crack testing kit will reveal a fine crack which an unaided human eye possibly cannot see, so gives you that much more warning, again to NOT DRIVE THE CAR, as soon as the crack is revealed by the test kit.

I am NOT advocating folks drive their cars with ANY crack, no matter how hairline it is, good sense should prevail, it’s not only yourself you endanger, it’s also the public at large.  “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

LRTIME just did this on their 405 and used a crack testing kit they inspected them and thought 1 bad 1 good thectesting kit proved both were cracked. LR Germany have replaced and fixed their car and looks like it's going to be flagged up in Germany as a recall .
