Emissions results from todays MOT are:

Fast Idle Test:

CO: Limit is 0.20, my car was 0.00.
HC: Limit 200, my car was 1.

Natural Idle:

Limit: 0.30, my car was 0.00.

To say I'm pleased with that is an understatement! It looks like it’s running really cleanly so no air leaks, etc.

We’ve done 250 miles since servicing the gearbox now and I’m pleased to say that it is silky smooth. I played with the paddles on the way home from the MOT tonight and gave it a bit of throttle, it’s running beautifully. When I bought this 5.0 I didn’t really like the grill or side vents on it.

Strangely, it had the grill and side vents from the Autobiography Design Pack but none of the side skirts or bumpers.

When I saw it parked next to our 4.4 I decided that i preferred the normal front grills and side vents.

I must say L322 in Silver has to be the best colour

I’ve had a silver one before and loved it. The colour was what made me pull the trigger on this one with minimal thought.

Not been a lot to update here... the 5.0 is doing everything that I want it to and more!

A friend of mine has been told by his oncologist to get his papers in order which came as a bit of a shock as we all thought he was doing well.

He's got an old Citroen XM that he's very fond of and he's been trying to sort out for a year or two without much luck.

I decided that I would go and fetch his car and finish it for him.

After covering 701 miles with the trailer, I arrived home just before 3am on Friday morning.

Wow! that milage is truly amazing with a trailer & car on the back. I do that just that on an average journey without any been towed....  2010 RR Autobiography 5.0 SC

This weekend saw the 5.0 dragged into action again with another trip to Wales.

My friend isn’t in a good place with his health at the moment so we had a trip to see him whilst we could.

Another trip with just over 700 miles covered. The car hasn’t used a drop of oil or coolant, just lots and lots of gallons of V-Power.

I had a gentle trip down overnight on Thursday night and noticed that the economy on the car was a lot less then it was the night I collected the car and drove it from London to Glasgow. On the trip down to Wales at a steady 70 it did 23.8mpg, the night I collected the car it did 29.5mpg at 65mph. I’d expect it to be a bit less at 70 but not that much less.

Yesterday, when I braked briskly for a junction, I noticed that as the car came to a halt it was as if I was braking against the car for a couple of seconds and as I came to a stop the revs took a second or two to drop to 800rpm which I think is slightly high for idle so i began to suspect it was an air leak.

When I got home tonight I plugged in my IID tool and checked the fuel trims, the short term trims as the car was idling on the driveway was identical on both banks, however, Bank 1 was showing 9.38% and Bank 2 was showing -0.781. Bank 2 is pretty much perfect but something is upsetting Bank 1.

I’ve been having a look at mine whilst I was out this morning and noticed a difference in the MAF readings between the two sensors.



They’re both brand new Denso sensors so I’m going to swap them around and see if the high reading follows the sensor or not and go from there.

I’ve still got the old MAF’s in the workshop wrapped up so I can substitute them to try and figure out which one is giving a bad reading too.

I tend to check the oil on all my cars weekly as I’m wandering around at the weekend. Normally I like the Range Rover as it’s easy to do when it’s raining without getting wet!

Last Sunday when I checked the oil it was sitting just below the maximum mark.

I did about 20 miles in it this week and it’s been parked on a level surface since.

Yesterday we were about to head to Costco and I thought I’d just check it before we left and it said that the oil level was under filled.

A quick check of the handbook said that when this message occurs you need to add 2 litres. At this point I got out and had a look on the yard underneath it, shone a torch down onto the undertray and couldn’t see any oil sitting on there either. I spent last night wondering where it could’ve gone and had visions of valve stem seals or piston rings in the near future but none of it made sense as there was no smoke whatsoever from the car when it was running.

I decided rather then topping it up, as I had oil and a filter I’d give it a service as it’s done about 3000 miles since. I’ve got a friends car on the ramp at the moment so this morning I went and bought an oil vacuum pump so I could drain it easily and measure the quantity of oil that was removed.

This afternoon, just before starting to remove the oil, for some reason I decided I’d check the oil level once more and it was back to sitting just below maximum with “Oil Level OK” displayed on the dashboard.

I breathed a sigh of relief at this point as I figured it was probably the oil level sensor. That sigh of relief was short lived when I read the instructions on how to change it in the workshop manual though!  2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

It's now nearly 8 months since I finished doing the timing chains and 6 months since the gearbox was sorted too. I'm pleased to report that this car is behaving very well and is a joy to own.

Looking at photographs the car has done 4650 miles since the timing chains were done. The first oil change was done at 500 miles and I've just done another tonight after another 4000 miles before we go away for a weekend.

This time I did it using an oil extraction pump which made it remarkably easy, quick and free of mess.

I've done some bits of it Pete, I burst a couple of tiny bubbles that were forming on the rear arches where the rear doors shut and treated them with Bilt Hammer Hydrate 80 before covering them with some zinc primer.

There is very little rust on this car and there are no bubbles or corrosion visible in any of the usual places with it being a London/South Coast car so prevention really is the key with this one.

Once we've been away this year I'm going to remove the back wheels, arch liners and sill covers and make sure everything is clean as a whistle, anything that looks suspect is cleaned and rust proofed and then I'll give it all a good coat of paint.

The only thing I'm debating with myself is how far to go. I keep contemplating dropping the rear subframe so that I can have it blasted, treated and painted and rebushed and then I can get easy access to the body in all of the places that are normally very awkward.

Decisions, decisions!

I realised today as we drove to Thornton Cleveleys in it that it's only 3 weeks shy of a year since we bought the car!

This 5.0 Supercharged isn't giving me a lot to post about at the moment! It's being the perfect Range Rover.

We've just returned from a 932 mile round trip to North Wales to see friends and family. It's not used a drop of oil or water, only plenty of gallons of V-Power

That's over a year and around 8000 miles I've done in this one now as a second car. I've returned from our trip pondering the idea of a change. Seems stupid given how well this one is running though.
