Well, we’re just over 100 miles in so far and nothing much to report!
It does need a couple of bushes at the front. The steering feels a little vague and if you brake sharply you get a clunk from something. Lemforder made the OE bushes so I think I’m going to replace both bushes on the lower arm, I’ll replace the upper arm as it’s got an integral ball joint, and I’ll replace both ball joints in the hubs. Once those are done it should be perfect. ![]() David. 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather 2012 Range Rover 5.0 SC Autobiography in Indus Silver with Jet/Ivory Interior 2012 Range Rover 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography in Baltic Blue with Sand Interior |

Now a couple of hundred miles in and she’s running great. Fuel light came on last night so I ran it a bit lower today, stuck 10 gallons of fuel in it and poured in a can of BG44K Platinum injector cleaner. It said on the tin it treated 10-20 gallons of fuel so I thought 45 litres of fuel would give it a decent concentration.
Got everything refitted, then put the car back on it’s wheels, put the suspension right up, then right down and back to normal ride height and then torqued all the bolts. When I removed the old parts, none of them were noticeably worn but when wiggling the bushes the rubber had gone soft and perished. They all looked to be the originals to the car so I can’t complain. Taking it for a run tonight shows a big improvement in the way the car handles and there’s no annoying clunk ![]() Hoping to go away in it for a few days next week so will give it another oil and filter change again next weekend to ensure it’s running on nice clean oil and that it’s had a flush after all the work that was done on it. Been a busy day today as before doing these bushes I swapped the steering box out on our P38 as well. My shoulders need a few days off now! Well, after the recent weather we’ve had in Scotland, surprisingly, today was lovely so I decided to give the Range Rover a wash.
The wheels were cleaned with fallout remover. It took 3 goes before the fallout remover stopped lifting out contaminants. Once that was done I gave the tyres a going over with some tyre shampoo and a brush. Surprising the amount of stuff it removes even after the tyres were pressure washed.
I then gave the steps a good going over with fallout remover, tar remover and gave them a wash with some shampoo. The bodywork was then gone over with a citrus degreaser and then rinsed, snow foamed and rinsed, then washed with a lambs wool washmitt and rinsed again. Then as a cheat as I was running out of time I gave it a coat of Gyeon Wet Coat.
Must admit I’m over the moon with the results. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll get time to treat the glass then give the interior a going over. The interior doesn’t need much but I’d like to get some decent leather treatment into the seats. Looks great, by the time you have treated all the leather in an autobiography you will have used two bottles, it won't be a 5min job.......!!! |

I used Solvol Metal Polish with a microfibre cloth and a lot of elbow grease.

When I got the Range Rover it had a different spare wheel under the boot floor. I checked the build sheet for the car and realised that the car was on the correct wheels and it was indeed just the spare that was wrong.
When I climbed onto the tailgate to attach the spare wheel lifting strap one of the tailgate straps broke. The wire came out of the crimp. I called Duckworths and ordered a pair of them. Was amazed to find they were £98 a pair even after a 20% discount! ![]() Once that was done I took all the mats out of the car, gave the car a good hoover, wiped all the trims down, pressure washed the mats and rubbed some treatment into them. I then fitted the little guys car seat base too. I was going to treat the leather too but I don’t like the stuff that I’ve got on perforated leather. Has anyone got any recommendations on a decent leather conditioner? Anyway, it’s done for now and I’m quite happy with the results.
It’s done 300 miles since the chains were done now so whilst I was out tinkering tonight I gave it an oil and filter change as well. I chucked in a can of Millers engine flush, let it idle for 15 minutes as per the instructions and then drained the oil via the sump plug rather then the suction method. It’s now filled up with 8 litres of Fuchs Titan 0w20 and has a genuine Land Rover filter on it. Got a strange issue with the car that I’m about to start another thread on but she’s running great. This engine is soooo quiet with the new chains on it.
