Low oil would give a low oil pressure warning in some circumstances but AFAIK the oil level has to be checked and there is no actual low level warning. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

What was the root cause though? When was the oil last changed? Did the garage not put the correct amount in? Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

I do all my own oil changes every 3-4000 miles with a genuine filter and up to now used Shell helix.

The wrong oil wouldn't damage a turbo unless it was in there for a very extended period of time. The root cause probably won't be known until the turbo's are out and torn down and the damage may have been done long before you had it. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

Thing is Jaygee it has never smoked at all, just the last few weeks. And like I've said it has never used a drop of oil between changes. |

"Today I had a sound similar to a stone being rattled in a tin can and then a puff of smoke from the exhaust." - just read this from the start of the thread. This sounds also like something could have got ingested into the turbo from the intake side. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

Sorry to hear the bad news Kev, not good especially after seeing your car and the superb condition you keep the car in. Sounds like everything was ok and then the turbo threw it's hand in. As for the above post, it 'may' have ingested something. In my work when turbochargers fail it's with little or no warning, because of the high speed once the bearing starts to go things happen quickly.

Thanks Rob. Obviously I won't drive it till it's fixed because I'm worried it could block the DPF. On the test run it still goes like Joe Stink with no noises but more like Joe Smoke now! |

Keep us posted and fingers crossed it all works out and you get the motor back in fine fettle...despite the ding to the wallet

Will do Rob. It's a keeper. It's my caravan tug and was planned to be my last car anyway. |

If the turbo spindle is now out of balance having taken a hit or lost parts of vanes then the seals will likely leak oil even if the seals haven't been damaged. |
