Hi All new to the forum as it has just happened to me on my 2016 RR driving at 65 mph just changing lane on dual carriageway, went over small hump in road at the same time and bang. Had control and got it to inside lane before lost brakes and drive.

Cannot seem to upload photo but would love to join what’s app group as i know this going to be a long fight with JLR as i gave in fighting with them 3 months ago over a water leak and eventually a complete engine rebuild by my garage after it being with JLR garages 3 times!!

I thought this did not afect 2016 cars?

Sorry 2015

Morning the part numbers that were fitted are LR146343 nearside and LR146341 offside and for some strange reason the offside was nearly £100 more expensive , i can't get to the cast markings on the new parts until next time the wheels are removed but on the old knuckles the markings were 3k186 nearside and 3k185 offside.
The new Knuckles fitted to my car look and measure to be the same as the old knuckles, i have not acctualy found any solid evidence that a new improved part exists that can be fitted.
I have only seen one picture on ebay of a 2018-2020 knuckle being advertised that looked like it had more meat at the top but that could have been the camera angle or just a random picture being used of a knuckle from another model of Land Rovel as they were a Land Rover breaker, until someone gets hold of one of these new improved knuckles if it exists and can show pictures of the new and old side by side and also get someone to confirm that all the steering and suspension geometry will stay exactly the same and Land rover approve it can be fitted i would say the parts LR146343 AND LR146341 should be fitted but that's just my opinion.
At no time during my original search for parts before all my parts were purchased from Land Rover using my vin number would anyone confirm different part numbers to LR146343 and LR146341 could be fitted.

I have only seen cases on 2015 vehicles and don't know anything about earlier or later cars.
Thanks

Canadian-spec 2015 Autobiography owner here. I've been trying to determine if my knuckles have been changed.
According to the post above, the latest part numbers should be LR146343 and LR146341, however, having taken videos of my wheel well, and looking online, I cannot see these LR part numbers stamped/engraved anywhere on the knuckle. Here's a website with some detailed pictures of the knuckle: https://bestparts.kiev.ua/zapchasti-land-r...ogue-l405/

In that link, the only visible markings are:
ENPSA
3K185
ALSi1MgMn-T6
P091835
CPLA-3K185-BB

Where can I find LR146343 and LR146341 to confirm if my knuckle has been replaced or not?

You won't find the LR numbers stamped on the parts themselves. Kev

Unwanted discovery while servicing

Found this today while carrying out a basic service, gutted its broke and going to cost circa 500 quid for a new one, but on the plus side glad I spotted it before it gave way.

Blood hell… I imagine that’s the same as the link above then.

Surely they must recall and sort this. It’s not like it’s only a minor issue….

Wow, reading the other thread this is scary and seems to be quite common, in a faulty issue kind of way. Shame manufacturers always seem to wait for the death toll/injury claims amount to hit a certain level before they take action rather than doing the right thing, especially with a safety critical part.

Not seen anything similar on the L322, so definitely they seem to have gone a little over board with weight saving etc. Tom

Having read the threads about this problem, if it were my car, I would change both left and right side components, expensive I know, but at least it would give you peace of mind in the future.

Sorry to hear this Dave. Thankfully you've picked up on it before it completely failed when you could have been driving it.

Can you confirm your VIN is within the affected range? (195780 to 228236) Kev

VIN is outside the range quoted, mine ends 246529 so quite a way ahead, its a 2015 car but 2016 build so late 65 plate. I don’t think there’s been any recall but I will report to JLR even though I think I’m wasting my time on an 8 year old car with 81K on the clock.
But the bottom line is this is dangerous and has now happened too many times on a supposedly prestige vehicle Shocked

As posted before, it is a shocker and a concern to anyone with a 405, maybe the more so if outside the VIN range supposedly affected. At least you found it before it caused an accident. LR should be doing a recall on this, and IIRC are doing in the USA where consumer protection and litigation remedies are much tougher. DVSA should be pushing this, but alas maybe someone has to die or be badly injured before they will do anything. Sad, and a discouragement from having LR products.

Incidentally look at the corresponding component on the new Defender, it is very much more substantial, though given the forces that can be generated by galvanic corrosion it may not be a complete solution either.

I'd also be changing both sides as a precaution, and pushing LR for a goodwill contribution, plus complaining to DVSA. If LR regard this as normal wear and tear (which posts on here suggest they do) they should set a replacement mileage/age as preventative maintenance. Only Range Rovers since 1988

I’m now worried as my vin sits within the range. I wonder if there is merit to opening it up and removing any white oxidation on a periodic basis ? V8 or else ...

I do wonder how many accidents have been caused by this.
