I have found 3 others with the same issue over recent weeks the exact same failure as mine. Also a Russian video has emerged showing the fault and the recall notice for vehicles with certain VIN range.

Would you be ok me passing the information from Dubai to the DVSA who are still investigating the issue with JLR in the UK.

I wonder if there is a TSB for this. If it was done as regular maintenance then it would be a recall, which should apply to all affected vehicles.

It would be interesting to find out if there is an outstaniding campaign which could be called on to get this done by the dealers. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Yes, implication being that the dealer just did it foc under direction from JLR, that’s what I meant.. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Just read the post regarding the front L/H knuckle failure - I’ve had exactly the same occur recently.

Just pulling up on my drive way when a huge bang occurred - jumped out and couldn’t believe the sight of my front wheel literally hanging over at an angle of 30 degrees. I luckily had a ratchet strap with me and managed to pull the broken knuckle casting back towards the suspension damper which allowed me to let the car gently roll a few feet so i was clear of the road.

This is a major component failure !
If this had happened at any sort of speed on the road would have resulted in a major RTA.
My wife has lost complete confidence in the Range Rover and refuses to drive it again - “what if the other side does the same”
My vechile is currently still parked up awaiting for repairs to commence - any one got any advice on Land Rover UK’s current view on this ?

Some one is going to end up seriously injured or even worse !

I have had the exact same failure this last week - my 2015 Range Rover has 42K on the clock and full service history.

My knuckle failed as I was just pulling into my drive way - loud bang and after jumping out found my off-side front wheel hanging over at around 30 degrees !

Major structural defect has occurred and could have resulted in a major RTA if this had occurred only 5 mins earlier at speed.
Land Rover UK need to accept this and a recall required in my book.

Aluminium casting has clearly deteriorated around the steel pin pinch bolt area.

My drive shaft also has been completely destroyed so this is going to be a costly one !

Anyone else got any good advice ?

It appears that all the affected vehicles in this thread are 2015, was there a part superseded that particular year?
Surely if its down to corrosion of the knuckle the older 13/14 cars would have shown the fault before now? Confused Paul

A worrying development for 2015 owners.......... JLR need to act and quick IMHO. 1 maybe unlucky, 2 is definitely bad news. BMW i3 Electric Car

this LR suspension design was common between several models, I’m sure that the L494 used the same parts as the 405. Also the defender and discovery 5 have a very similar setup. Would be interesting to know if there are any similar failures on those as well. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

blimey, that's scary.

looking at pictures of used uprights on ebay, the pinch bolt area doesn't look particularly beefy given the size and weight of the car

if I had an L405 think I'd be crack testing both sides Shocked Shocked 2010 VSE [Roger]

Bloody scary failures Shocked I definitely agree with crack testing, clean the area up carefully and use the spray crack detector at the least.

Spray can detector kits are quite cheap, having used them many times over the years they are very good at showing cracks that are invisible to the naked eye. If you have not used them before, just follow the instructions carefully.
