Thanks. I don't have a GAP tool.

So should I assume I must replace like with like (i.e. non AGM) ? Too many toys, not enough time

A Trap

I would go AGM, I think it makes a huge difference on charging in the short term so you can either get a GAP tool or get your local Indy/dealer to set it for you at a later convenient date. The AGM’s are better.

Main proviso is types of journeys you do, you are a short hop, city/town driver definitely AGM, but if your regular commute/journeys are long save some money and go regular flooded lead acid.

I treat batteries as a service item and decided to change the AGM battery on my 2011 TDV8. There was no sign of a problem but as we were approaching winter and it was at least 4 years old and possibly 8 years old it was a precautionary thing. The battery that I removed went onto my 2007 TDV8. I’ve known this car for years and it did sometimes suffer from a flat battery when used for short trips despite having had a new alternator and battery. So far this (admittedly mild) winter it has never failed to start.
This hardly a scientific test but it’s enough to convince me that an AGM battery is well worth the extra cost

I should have added that I didn’t change any settings, just bolted the battery on

Thanks.
The car was sat for about 3 weeks and that seemed to kill the battery.
I think a cell has died. I Put it on charge and think that has killed it further. Unlocked the car this morning but would not start, so left it.

When its used I do about 50 miles a day in it.

I think I will order an AGM battery then. Too many toys, not enough time

John,
The 2011 you own definitely needs an 019 AGM battery.

Hi, I have an 8-month-old AGM battery for sale which has been checked by GSF and is perfect when I tried to return it today?
This is because JLR told me in Spain it was at fault and I paid 309 euros for a new one.

Hi all, just for info, bought my 07 4.4 petrol jag engined car in 2014, a few weeks ago the battery had a sudden death experience, just in front of my new indy. They took it out and it was an AGM OEM LR. Never had a problem with it and replaced it with a Varta AGM that has exactly the same dimensions. Turned the steering wheel from one side to the other and it works like a doll. 3 year waranty on the battery at a total cost of 240 euro fitting included.

Rightly or wrongly, I went with a non AGM Bosch 5-013 (their 019) in the end (I had ordered it and picked up yesterday afternoon before I saw your comments Baltic & Bushy).

The reason being I don't have an IID tool to change anything, and it was a non AGM battery in there before that I was replacing, so this seemed the least risky choice to get the car usable again.
Add to that the new battery has a 5 year life, so if it proves to be crap and dies I will take it back.

I do suspect it should have had an AGM battery originally. If I still have the car in 5 years time maybe I will fit an AGM one then Smile Too many toys, not enough time

Just keep your receipt and keep the boot electronics dry including the silly rear wiper setup and you will be ok. I have changed a few batteries under warranty and if I were the manufacture I would give range rovers a wide berth!
Just had my AGM in my 03 td6 a couple of month too early to comment but I would say optimistic as it seems to recover from discharge well and have a higher voltage resulting in less cranking.

I'm the OP on this thread. Just feeding back with the final instalment of this battery's life... The AGM battery I fitted just over 3 1/2 years ago has reached the point where it is becoming unreliable so I've decided to swap it (for another AGM battery obviously!).

Some might say that 3 1/2 years isn't very long for one of these, but I know that my driving profile of lots of short journeys with all the heaters on and using the FBH regularly is a battery-killer, so I reckon 3 1/2 years of largely trouble-free service is pretty good going.

Lockdown didn't help... so I've had to charge it a couple of times in recent months, but all in all I'm very happy with the AGM battery decision.

Now... onto my sticking brakes issue... I'm off for a search...!

Cheers.
