OK Nino. That can get oily through the turbo's.Should not be to dirty as it is before the dirty EGR air.The I/C should stop most dirt(oil)? If a lot of oil on the sensor then one of the turbo's seals are leaking!

Am I right in assuming the following....
The MAP sits on top of the inlet manifold and can be easily removed and cleaned?
The MAF sits inside the intake pipe and takes a bit more work to access?
This thread discusses both so I just wanted to check Thumbs Up
Thanks in andvance

Rob

You are correct in this. I have just replaced the four hoses and cleaned up the plenum and sensors. Filthy job. I did not take the MAF from the intake duct, as it looks as if it may be stuck in there. Rather cleaned with electrical cleaner. If you are only cleaning sensors the intake comes off fairly easily with a little care. Cheers

Embarassed Edited as may be an incorrect sensor ID please see Wiki under

tdv8 4.4 MAP & charge air temp sensors (MY11) cleaning process

Hope this helps

Remove the cover from the engine top.

In photo

remove hose clips 1 &2 and hose being particularly careful to avoid moving or damaging 3 & 3a

remove hose clip 4 and slide hose off

remove MAF connector 5, press at rear to release clip and remove, again with care.

clip 6 needs to be released by moving ends apart and easing out of grooves.

carefully ease away the plastic section containing the MAF

Clean and replace in the reverse order. Electrical contact cleaner did the job for me. The MAF is most likely a fragile device, treat with respect.

As a precaution, inspect the joint 3a for any signs of leakage of coolant, visible with a pink tinge. Replace the section. It appears to be only available as an £80+ part, although there is a repair, done I think be nino-nino.
Break the connector 3 and you're in for a bill of £40+ unless you can source a correct sized connector from the interwebs thingy. Cheers

Hi Graeme

We've been looking at what we believe is the MAF in the outlet from the intercooler to the inlet plenum for the engine. It may well be only one of a series of sensors in the air flow monitoring and those in the air boxes may be measuring the difference in inlet flows between the first and second turbos, thus allowing the software to do its magic in calculating for fuelling etc..

Can you let us know what the parts name/sensor/number is and does and if it becomes contaminated in the same way as the one we are discussing? Taking them out for cleaning should not be a difficult job as they sit on top of the air filter boxes, rather in the way of the MAP in the plenum "donut" Cheers
