Greg

Faults like this that come and go are such a PITA to trace - but it does now perhaps point to a duff connector somewhere. I will shortly have similar fun and games sorting out Easy Access on my steering column which I am convinced is a loose/corroded connector somewhere. For me, that will have to wait until spring arrives next week, especially as I slipped a disc in my back yesterday Rolling Eyes

I know the seat blowers are not cheap, but at the same, it is almost better to know a part is faulty, swap it out and job done.

Let us know how you get along mate. Current Cars:

Air flow restriction can be on the output too.
As far as I can work out the air is blown in by the fan, ciculates through the pad, and then exits near the fan again. That is, the air doesn't actually come out of the perforations. If you think about it that makes sense as most of them will be covered up when you sit on the seat.

I have tested the unit you sent me with a meter and there are no shorts or open circuits. All values look OK although not all are in the quoted ranges.
Next step is to test the peltier for heating, and temp sensor (job for tomorrow night) Too many toys, not enough time

A minor update on my flakey seat base heater. I've been trying again to remove it from under the seat and then I found an image of the part

Next to the row of copper terminals you can see the central bolt which passes from the top, through a separate grille thingy. Lucky I didn't pull too hard because it definitely looks like the whole seat cover and cushion will need to come off to remove the heater unit.

I also went back to the WM and I found a mention of a sensor in the seat cushion. Might be interesting source of my fault. As for John's comments re exhaust air, I can't readily see where the air goes after exiting the unit. I am wondering if there are channels in the foam. Maybe these may have deteriorated.

Either way, looks like the base seat cover need to come off. Was trying to avoid but if I do, I'll take the opportunity to replace the foam which has seen better days.

If anyone's had the base unit out, or replaced their foam base, pls holler. I'm wondering about the sensor. It's not shown in the WM diagrams. Only mentioned in text here:

. Cheers, Greg

Greg,
Do you know how to make the change to PDF on an iPad?

I rarely use my PC laptop these days because it is very old and so slow, I think the job of getting the WM from Topix was the straw that broke the camels back.

Cheers

Hi guys,
Sorry for the delay in replying. Work is manic and it's not much better at home ! Laughing

Greg, the copper bits you point to above are the radiator fins attached to the peltier junction.
The fan blows air across both sides of the peltier. The peltier transfers heat from one side to the other, and the direction depends on the polarity applied.

One side of the moulding directs air into the seat Base. The other side vents out below the seat.
I am unclear where the air blown into the cushion actually exits.

So Greg, I think what you need to do is disconnect the unit from your seat Base but keep it still electrically connected. Then turn the seat heating on and see firstly if it blows out hot air from the seat side of the moulding, and secondly whether you then get the overtemperature warning.

I don't think there is an additional sensor related to seat heating in the cushion. The only sensor I can see is for occupancy,to enable seat belt and airbag.

I have partially tested the unit you sent me.
The fan works fine, and the peltier does heat up.
The temp sensor on the peltier also changes value but I need to figure out if it's doing so correctly.

I am away for the next 2 weekends so will get back on it then Wink

One thing to be aware of. Don't be tempted to stick 12v across the peltier !
The module uses a lower voltage to control it which looks to be about 6v. Too many toys, not enough time

Cheers John, I'll give that a try.
Need to do a major seat teardown anyway just to get that Censored out.

Interesting findings on your tests so far too.
. Cheers, Greg

This is worth a read

https://www.rangerovers.net/forum/6-range-...fan-2.html

Are we ok to link to the 'other' site Stan? I guess I'll find out....!
It's circular and when your read right through to the end it points back to this thread!

Still need to do a full seat take-apart. Funny how a heated seat is no longer a priority job!
. Cheers, Greg

My theory is, that the peltier is actually working in your case, and heating up.
The temp sensor is sensing that it is getting too hot due to lack of sufficient air flow.

In the linked page, and info posted back on page 2 of this thread, the problem there was the ducting having a hole in it, so the air was escaping and not going through the peltier.

That is why I suggested disconnecting the oval bit from the seat Base and trying it.
I would expect it will then work correctly, or not throw a fault code.
You could also set the seat to max cold and see if it actually chills the seat Base. The leather gets noticeably cool to the touch. Too many toys, not enough time

United States 2010 Range Rover HSE 5.0 V8 Santorini Black

Ran across this while looking up problems with my seats. With 157k miles I expect the filters are filthy. The passenger seat still works, but the drivers doesn't seem to heat or cool. I expect it needs a new unit. I'll start with filter first though. A lot of the Ford owners are buying the RR filters because it still has the filter media in it. I'm actually ordering the Ford FS-106 for better airflow. Found the FS for a little cheaper than the RR filter. Does anyone know if the F150 fan unit is a direct replacement for the RR unit if it is bad?
