That's my understanding, the vemo should fit straight in and give you a running temp of around 93-95 degrees.
I think my head gasket is good, i was worried about the discolouration of the oil but i think that was left over from the flush i did before changing out the timing gear either that or condensation from my very short infrequent runs, i have bled the cooling system much better now by raising the front of the vehicle and done an oil and filter change and it is not using any water, the oil is staying perfectly clear and it is pulling like a train with the new MAF so i am cautiously optimistic that i am ok. i don't have any oil light flicker either when it is hot. Thumbs Up

Bit more info here from the bimmer chaps,

Even more interesting is the possibility of a separate body and thermostat, all be it without the quick connector, but now i am just getting carried away...

Thinking abpout this hot running issue. My car smells pretty damn hot after a run as others have described. Is it possible it's the thermostat heater that's failed causing it not to 'force' it open fully and thus run closer to 105 deg all of the time when it opens fully by itself? Drives:

Normal running conditions are with the heater off, only under heavy load will the heater cause the stat to open.
Diagnostics will tell you if the heater is functioning

It's not a hot running issue, they were designed to run at a very high temp, it is a normal feature but not a desirable one, hence this mod.... Thumbs Up Pete

Netherlands 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Java Black

Hi,

So I ordered the BEHR thermostat model TI 3288 for the 740 diesel. It is exactly like in Andy's pics, with the 88 degrees indfication on the side - just where the connector is on "our" BEHR TM 12105 model.

I was hoping to install the connector on the 740D model.... the little circle plate pops out easily on the model BEHR TI 3288 for the 740 diesel, but the connector on "our" 105 degree model is glued in - and impossible to get out without breaking it to pieces.

My indy garage is 100% certain he needs to ADD the temp connector... if not hes is 100% sure of fault code.

UKMarine. / you indicated driving without that connector fitted... no fault code generated at all ?

Hope to hear more.... Mark Offringa

Hi, it does generate a fault code, just not one sufficient to put a message in the instrument panel.

Hope that helps as I've been driving mine for a good four months like this and it's behaving itself perfectly.

Well he is 100% wrong, it is not a temp sender it sends power to open the stat, what can you connect it to...??????

It does show a soft fault i.e. it says it's not working but it has absolutely no effect on anything else and as it's a soft code it CANNOT put a warning light on....

This is what it will show

0x48C Electric thermostat circuit fault

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Pete

I have literally just finished installing the diesel 88deg thermostat. Not started up yet though as need to pop out to get some coolant. Nobody mentioned what a bit*h that lower l/h bolt is to get at!!

Edit: Now all topped up with coolant and run until thermostat openned, all seems good. Just need to let it cool off to check coolant level and we're off, I hope! Drives:
