New set of brake pads all round............cook brought the neighbors round ( as I thought I'd clean the inside
of the alloys seeing as they were off) she reckoned I'd lost my mind...........But even she thought they looked better

was a busy weekend for me. I pulled all the seats out to run rca and power cables down the side channels and while the seats were out extracted nearly all of the stains in the carpet as well. Then installed polk speakers in the rear doors. and removed the B C & D Pillar trims readying to remove the headlining for recovering in alcantara.

Scotland 2008 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Stornoway Grey

Fitted a Westfalia tow bar with proper electrics (all supplied by Jones). Fitted the tow bar yesterday and the electrics today. All seems fine.

Did the bar the first day and the electrics the second day as, at my age, these things take a bit longer. Embarassed Also had to cut off the bolts for the exhaust suspension brackets as they were rusted solid. All adds to the time. Used my 3 ton trolley jack to position it so managed it as a single handed job.

The new tow bar is a very nice bit of design. I have a plough" on the D2 but the Westfalia is definitely more discreet. Only thing that didn't come with it was a rubber bung for the armature - I've got a farmers hitch. John

Day trip to Skye

Decided to have the day off and went to Skye.

Followed the the A87 (Kyle of Lochalsh road) with stunning scenery , then took the Glenelg to Skye ferry instead of going over the bridge.

The ferry was built in 1969 and is is the last operating manual turntable ferry in the world. - Must have a decent set of bearings !! It's a community run ferry and operated every 20 mins - or when required..so that was a 40 min wait for us then Shocked

Lunch in Skye and back home over the bridge.

Good day out (it only rained whilst waiting for the ferry!!) Thumbs Up

Ran out of fuel with 67 miles worth of petrol left in tank. Looks like I'll have to get the balance pump sorted/changed.Wife not best pleased as she had a call out from me, a couple of years ago with the same thing! Previous cars:

Not in the RR itself, but I have been researching service kits so I know what part numbers I need to buy.

After looking at the oil filter element pictured, going "huh?" and briefly wondering what sort of idiot designs a modern engine with a separate, non-canister filter... I was very pleasantly surprised indeed to discover that it's because its a remote unit mounted on the scuttle.
Bow down Well done BMW for designing the first engine I've seen that doesnt have the filter lodged in the murky depths of the engine! (in contrast to my TD5 that had it under the turbo gubbins where it was a complete swine to even get at)
Why can't all manufacturers do this? NW060

Congratulate BMW after you check yours will unscrew sir Whistle Whistle Whistle

They have a bad habit of seizing and are a PITA to open without wrecking the rubber mounts! Rolling Eyes

Ah.

Would a good pre-emptive squirt of penetrating fluid help?

If not, is there a special technique/way of holding them to avoid mount damage, or shall i add a new set of rubbers to my parts order just in case? (I'm guessing a pair of rubber bushes isnt going to break the bank) NW060
