United Kingdom 2002 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Java Black

Thank you mjdronfield,

I'll have another look at mine at the weekend when I have more time. I may have to buy another set if I've damaged these ones significantly.

No problem with the senior moment, I have them all the time and it did remind me to add some vehicle details to my signature which I should have done when I joined the forum.

I'll be very interested in hearing how you get on GraemeC Peter Kemp

Yes, the boxes and info are identical to those I received. If my bulbs didn't have that small nib at the top of the glass envelope left when they are manufactured they would fit as I think that couple of extra mm would make all the difference.

Really do need to improve the reversing lights as wonderful Essex County Council now turn off all our street lighting at midnight, so trying to reverse into my drive, which is a tight fit anyway if I get home late is a bit of a gamble.

I've already taken out a O/S Rear Light Unit and that was in broad daylight!

A reversing camera has been on the "to do " list for some time. Peter Kemp

Glad to tell you all brightness of reverse lights is not an issue as they are not part of the MOT !. Same as front fogs .

United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Zermatt Silver

Tried to fit mine last night and failed. The problem is the upgrade bulbs have offset pins at approx. ten to two position, compared to the original bulbs which have the pins opposite each other (quarter to three position)

From doing a bit of reading, this is intentional on the part of the manufacturers to help ensure people use the correct bulbs for the correct functions.

This page shows has a diagram of the offset pins for a 433D BAY9 bulb

I may send mine back if I can be bothered.... 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

So this may explain why some have issues ? Do the later cars use straight pins perhaps ?

Just looked at the bulbs I took out, and they had offset pins ;

Which is why I only had a potential length issue (Steady !!)

I seem to remember reading that the holder could accept either type......could be wrong....... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Could you not file the lower mounted of the bayonet pins down with a file so as to get round the pin offset problems but still leaving the upper bayonet pin unscathed to ensure a good fit (did that with LED bulbs and it worked perfectly well)?

I received mine and like some mine will accept either type of bulb... I too had the length issue (ooh err) so i simply cut some material off the plastic locking pins on the side of the bulb holders using a craft knife. I then simply put an extra rubber "O" ring on to space the light back and hay presto Very Happy

Happy days Thumbs Up

Hello Craig,

Very interested in your solution. I thought about using an additional rubber "O" ring but wasn't sure how that would help. Am I right in thinking that in paring a little material from the plastic projecting locking tabs each side of the bulb holder you are then able to twist the holder when fitting it to the back of the lens to give what in engineering terms is called I think, an interference fit or are you able to make it to fit as when using the standard sized bulb? Sorry, the brains not functioning to well this morning! Peter Kemp

Taking a mm or 2 off the tabs mean your bulb will fit a mm or 2 further from the lens and you run less risk melting the lens Thumbs Up

Taking the material away in itself means you just have a poorly fitted bulb holder! Adding the extra "O" ring allows the bulb holder to lock in its original "designed way" but slightly further back Thumbs Up

The reason i decided to do it this way was two fold... Firstly i have explained, the second was because the 21w bulb was longer (in the metal holder, not in the glass section) so moving it back would put the filament closer to the original place...

Take any torch type light and move the bulb forward and back and you will notice the light get brighter & duller as the reflector does its job (in conjunction with the bulbs filament placement). Rear fog lamps that work on duel filament bulbs are a typical example. Put a side light bulb in a rear fog lamp and usually it will be brighter than a rear side lamp! Move that bulb a few mm forward or backward and the light dulls to match the usual side lamp strength. Hence why twin filament bulbs are usually staggered (also they usually mirror coat the reflector which makes it brighter still) but still the filament placement is critical for brightness Thumbs Up

This is why a lot of LED replacement bulbs don't do their job as the lamp you fit them too is filament orientation critical "if that makes sense?"

Hope that explains better? Thumbs Up
