I know this has been discussed to exhaustion on here but just wanted to share an idea i had to solve the emergency jack problem if you were unfortunate enough to get a flat.

I’ve looked at many Bottle jacks but never felt they extended far enough or were true to the jacking points on the FF RR and for some time I’ve been carrying a thumping great trolley jack that lifts to 530mm which is sufficient to get the wheels off the ground if required to change the wheel but its a pain in the back of the car...

So having checked the height/clearance to the 4 jacking points I found that some vans still use bottle jacks like the 2.5 ton Bottle jack off a Mercedes Sprinter that extents to a massive 570mm but without the bulk of a 4,5 or 6 tonne bottle jack body. The other reason i looked at this one is it appeared to have a removable shoulder that could be replaced with a bespoke BMW jacking plate.......that was my plan anyway....

So after receiving delivery of the jack, found one new for £26.01 delivered on flea bay I then sourced a BMW jacking adapter again from flea bay and set about joining the two together in glorious matrimony. You need to remove the old shoulder from the top of the jack with a 4mm punch then with some careful drilling of the jack adapter, drill a 16mm hole 16mm deep in the base of the adaptor to fit over the top of the jack. Then drill a 4mm hole drilled through the base of the adaptor to fit a 4x40mm roll pin which is longer than the one removed and there you have it, a bespoke 2.5 t bottle jack that fits in the BMW jacking points.

It’s much more stable than the scissor jack and due the BMW adapter it feels more secure than a standard bottle jack as they could slip at the point of contact with the car

I’ve added a few pictures of the result........even found a small box to keep it all tidy

When under the car take the blocks off, they are only a thick rubber/plastic and the proper mount and slot are underneath for long term jacking Just waxoil it a little to keep it from rusting  FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Just out of interest - Where are the jacking points that this adaptor slots into?

I've just nipped over to Bolton and picked one of these up - substantial piece of kit and it includes a bag of tools. He's got plenty left and he's a decent bloke.  Geoff

Mine arrived today. Fits nicely at the side of the spare wheel. Just need to get a BMW adaptor now and job done!

I never got round to puting the BMW end on it as it does fit just nicely, diagonally, in the jacking point. Previously..

Wouldn't that put undue pressure on those points though, as its not sitting flat in the square?

Does anyone have a drawing of the little alu block that sits on the top. A drawing with dimensions that I can send to a machinist to make it for me ?? MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

What about just grinding the original piece flat?? Would there still be enough meat left on it? I think so. Previously..

If you cut it down i think it would be too big to fit in and would overlap the the slot.

If someone who has one could measure the dimensions it should only take a few mins to rig up a drawing  FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
