The pre-2010MY used to slam down if you let if fall which would risk damaging the cable supports, this just makes it that bit more refined. 2006 Mercedes CLS

I fitted this at the weekend along with the updated release button. Was a very easy 20 minute install and in fact the release button was a more 'pain in the 'arris' job to the point I ended up taking the plastic surround off to ensure the clips were located properly.

Markdotreed, how did you mount the brackets – screws, bolts, or rivets?

I used 6mm self tapping screws and drilled a 4mm hole, although after centre punching the holes I drilled a 2mm hole first.

The parts arrived today, two new straps, a damper, the bracket and replacement tailgate release button cover - the old buttn cover went missing last time the car was in for a service.

Kinda tempted but if i was going this far I would be looking to fit a motor to the tailgate now that would be sexy |

I'll admit to putting the damper around the wrong way intitially but it was pretty obvious it was wrong so changed immediately. The only thing I have done slightly differently is the bracket is mounted maybe 10mm further back than shown in the picture. I might re-drill at the weekend and see if it makes a difference.
