I fitted this at the weekend along with the updated release button. Was a very easy 20 minute install and in fact the release button was a more 'pain in the 'arris' job to the point I ended up taking the plastic surround off to ensure the clips were located properly.
Installing the ram was a piece of pi$$ and although it doesn't dampen the lower tailgate for the whole movement (The last 10 degrees does seem to fall un-dampened) it's a good inexpensive addition. Regards

yes it is normal - falls initially but then does not bang open.

perfect imho - very quick to get it open but no unpleasant noise

I used 6mm self tapping screws and drilled a 4mm hole, although after centre punching the holes I drilled a 2mm hole first.
Very simple, uncomplicated job. If you're unsure of the correct diameter hole to drill, hold the bit up against the screw. The bit should be the same diameter as the screw core which leaves the threads to grip. Regards

2009 D4; 1993 Classic 3.9 VSE

The parts arrived today, two new straps, a damper, the bracket and replacement tailgate release button cover - the old buttn cover went missing last time the car was in for a service.

All fitted and working extremely well, the damper adds just enough resistance to let the tailgate drop. I will try and take a video at the weekend and post it to youtube.

I've fitted using self tappers, but I'm a little worried they may pull out, so I'm going to replace with correct torx screws and nuts.

@Mark - have you mounted the damper in the correct orientation with the arrow pointing upwards?
