South Africa 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 5.0 SC V8 Fuji White

My 2014 405 which when referenced to the VIN number documentation falls in the 'before' zone, if there really is such a thing..

I live at approx 1800m above sea level with fairly dry conditions, yes we have summer rain but generally no winter humidity, we are not subjected to salting of roads and the respective corrosion that can happen in that regard..

Just thought that regardless of the data out there it would be best to give them a visual and so both knuckles got a cleaning with some WD40 and scourer, thankfully no visual damage to be seen, yet, hopefully never...

She's on 122K km..

Yup, guess most of us have.

@Marcochezzi, for extra assurance, get yourself a crack-testing kit, whilst its clean. Some cracks are invisible to the human eye.

I just ordered mine tonight, £15.50 off eBay, for 3 aerosol can kit, as Christian used. :thumbsup:

I’ll be doing this very 6 months from now. :shock:

@Gremlin500 yes 100%.

I will be purchasing the crack test kit shortly and intend to do the test as you plan to every 6 months or so, just for peace of mind!!

While the cost of knuckle replacement coming out of one’s own pocket is high in the event that it might not be classified a recall locally, the cost of a potential accident happening is immeasurable..

edit - Kit now just been purchased..

Did my crack test yesterday, happy to say positive results both sides, well worth the £15 on eBay, enough in the kit to do loads of tests, I plan on doing one every Summer, given propagation takes a long time, and it’s an “unaffected” 2017 model. The test products clean off completely afterwards with brake cleaner:

It’s a no-brainer for peace of mind, given my wife usually drives the car. :thumbsup:

@Gremlin500

Do you have a link for the testing kit?

I couldn't see any on ebay for £15, most seem twice that.

Tip:

Get a couple of big cans of brake cleaner before using this kit, ScrewFix have big 600ml cans on offer for only £3.99 (20% off) right now. This will make your kit last longer. I also took the opportunity to re-lube the front caliper pins with anti-seize ready for Winter.

I had plastered Lanogard everywhere, and it took some shifting! Need to get it all off, as it seems to hang on to the indicator spray, as you can see from all the little pink spots in my pics.

Missus happy to let me blow a few quid, as I’d made her watch the LR Time video! :rolllaugh:

Thanks Gremlin, all ordered.

Good tip on the brake cleaner, I'm off to screwfix anyway tomorrow so I'll grab some while I'm in there Thumbs Up 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography

Just saw a 2017 with the cracks on a Facebook group. He submitted a complaint to NHTSA as he’s in the US. Hoping for a recall! The more complaints filed, the more likely that is.

Anyone have a crack test recommendation available in the US?

This really has to be a recall as 99.999% of L405 drivers will have no idea this is an issue or how to look for it. Very dangerous.

@Ash83:

Just Google “Weld crack detection kit aerosol” in your location, hopefully you can find something in your state.
