CSOV valve\turbo drain drill

Does anybody have some ideas about how much it should cost for a turbo drain drilling on a 4.4TD?

Been quoted silly money by the main dealer and got to go and find an indi around Hampshire that can do this for me.

Thanks,

do you actually need the modification Dave...if yours doesn't produce smoke on hard acceleration (over 2500 rpm) then you don't need the mod.. ... - .- -.

Thanks Stan,

Its not smoking, wife does alot of short journeys, so the oil has blown the seal, apparently the valve itself is OK.

Not getting any smoke, but anything upwards of 2500 revs and the restricted performance warning comes up and it goes into limp mode. __________________

Did they check the 4 short rubber hoses on the manifold?
It is a very common cause of restricted performance alarm at 2500 rpm. When 1 splits.

That didn't work did it.

Says
P006A-00 MAP AIR FLOW CORRELATION. Carried out visual inspection of the CSOV valve contaminated with oil. Recommend replacement of valve and carry out N/S Turbo drain modification __________________

Yeah, they checked that - they confirmed that the it was uneven airflow and under investigation confirmed that the valve wasn't opening, and that itself was swollen with oil.

Wouldn't mind as much but not 2 days ago, they stung us for £500 quid for the EGR temperature sensor, and our select warrentee doesn't cover either Shocked __________________

Someone on here was charged £1,000 by an indi for the mod., but I think it was North Yorks, so quite a trip. G reg 2.5VM Vogue Portofino red 1991- 1999

Generally, a correlation fault is caused by a Boost leak...

I'd be inclined to have the inlet system smoke tested to detect any leaks Thumbs Up

Mine cost just under £1000 at an indy but that was just for the turbo drain mod, the changover valve would be in addition

The technical bulletin quotes 1.1 hour labour to replace the CSOV. Not a difficult job.
Dan would be able to give the cost of the replacement valve.

I have got a paper copy of the bulletin if it helps you. G reg 2.5VM Vogue Portofino red 1991- 1999

I was told the drain mod was "an eight hour job". My turbo was checked today and the leak had apparently not got worse, so it will just be monitored. Only Range Rovers since 1988

Well, thanks for all the advise guys, and you were right.

Dealers came back with a quote for 2.5k in the end, and rang around, and found an indi - Keith Gott, who offered to do it for about a grand less. Dropped it in to them yesterday, and was presently surprised for one of their tech's 'Mike' to call me a couple of hours later and tell me it was a turbo hose. They swapped it over, cleaned out the DPF and she is running like a dream, and cost me less than a tenth of the dealer quote.

Credit where its due they really know there stuff, based just outside of Winchester and after dealing with them would recommend them to anyone in the area.

On a side note, there yard is like a landy paradise with dozens of green badges, from the latest FullFats to Forward Controls! __________________

My csov valve has stuck and is being replaced under a warranty direct warranty.

(Actually should say that Warranty Direct have probably covered more in costs for me on one MD visit that it cost me and I still have two years of cover left - I’m glad i took out the cover - although for a ‘gold plated’ cover they didn’t cover everything which was wrong and JLR had to give me a bit of goodwill. For example WD exclude their whole exhaust system from the warranty which suprised me.)

What’s the ‘ turbo drain mod’
