Varta and Bosch batteries are both made in the same American owned Johnson Controls factory in Valencia. Bosch brand owned by Bosch of course, Varta & Optima brand owned by JC Inc.

You could use an amg without issues iirc as they normally just upstate the alternator to boost charge them quicker as they are often used in stop start cars due to the amount of quick drains they get from starting the cars up and the need to get he battery charged quickly but in a 4.4 ff you'll be fine. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

i bought the s5 02 bosch, and have the receipt tucked away nicely. when I bought my FF it came with a 1 yr old s5 in it, but it was flat.(car was a non runner you see,) I believe it had been overcharged, or left completely flat.... as it had a very short charge life. it had been bought from Halfords. I took it in for a garuantee check, but they are adamant that it charged and holds charge. I suspected they didn't want to have back on warranty, so I bought same battery from europarts with discount for about £120 I kept their garuantee, and battery has been excellent on the 2002 4.4 I drive. never let me down, no starting issues, no weird electrical issues either. been on for about a year nearly. there is quite a lot of crap on the net about batteries, and there are problems for newer FF owners and programming batteries for these models at dealerships. With a digital multimeter it is possible to determine correct battery charge and normal battery voltage. (Halfords seem to think a little simpler) mine has the blow-off charged connector on the posi. procedure. turn off car and open bonnet, (leave drivers window down incase a central locking problem) open bonnet to service position... allow 20 mins for airbag/nav shutdown, remove neg and then posi, put a rubber glove over each terminal in case they try to flick back to terminals. de-clamp etc. carefully remove black trim poppers and watch them ping out and down drain! prop up plastic with some cardboard, stand on toolbox and lift battery up and onto bulkhead, and reverse procedure. try to get neg terminal onto post quickly, to avoid arc'ing. have key ready incase of alarm. set clock and nav date etc. note...make sure you haven't uncoupled the yellow cable for the terminal blowoff circuit. its thin, and short and gets wrested with pulling the battery cables around. check before you reteminate. then check airbag light etc.
