I believe Fuel Manager manufacture the LR filters so on that basis I've always been happy to use them.

If you put some rubber or silicone grease on the stub or rubber socket it makes removal next time a bit easier.
They can need a bit of a tug to get them out.

As has been said they all suffer on the edge of the arch so I wouldn't worry too much.
Hopefully behind the sill cover is ok as this is where they can start to go.

Sorry to hear the issues you are having, it is certainly not acceptable.
