Which Oil…..and a coolant rabbit hole….

Ok, I know this will open a can of worms, but……

4.4 SDV8 which oil are folks using.

The spec is a Ford WSS M2C 934B

The recommended is a Shell Helix Professional AJ-L 5W30

This seems to be like rocking horse 💩. So as an alternative Opie Offer several oils to spec:

Motul
Fuchs
Comma
Petronas
Valvoline
Liquimoly

All meet spec aparently, which would you choose?? There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I use Smith & Allen Momentum C1 5w30 for both the L322 & D4.
If you buy it 20l at a time it works out around £4.25 per litre. 2012 TDV8 4.4 Westminster Santorini black

#3 for this one, it’s the right spec and the best value if you’re changing it twice a year as you probably should be, there’s really little point in using anything too expensive IMHO. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Is there a 'bad' oil on sale any more? The days when we fretted over mineral oil being as viscous as water are long gone.

FWIW, S&A seems to be the best value, especially if one buys a 20 litre drum. It's a bargain for two oil changes, as mentioned above.

I recently bought some 10W40 from S&A for my SL at £44 for 10 litres. I am happy with that and if my engine grenades, it won't be due to the oil. 2012 Vogue TDV8 in Aintree green over sand

Ordered some smith and Allen. 👍🏻

Arrived today. Very quick dispatch direct from their site. Had a good read of their website and there is some interesting stuff on there.

I’ve now gone down a coolant rabbit hole…….

Book says JLR.651.5003 or XLC. The only one I can find which directly says it’s that spec is Mannol AF12+

Just looks like pink OAT to me……. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Had some of that in the garage, needed a top up the other day, 1/2 a cup, but I’m going to drop some fluid out to do the cooler tomorrow, so basically a full swap.

Why it’s not a Ford spec I don’t know as it’s a Ford engine…… the oil is a Ford spec🤣 There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
