tried mine yesterday, 20 minutes and the cabin was roasting hot Very Happy really nice!

I think the only real way to see whats going on is to set it to run a few minutes after you get out of the car and then give the car a quick wash or something so you are next to it with it locked and you can then hear it and listen for hte sound changes.

Failing that an indepth diagnostic would be able to tell you as im sure there are some things like FBH charging or cleansing where it overfuels to burn off any muck in its system.

I think it is also preset ot run for a few minutes to get the water upto temp as i may be wrong but i dont think it pumps, it just relies on the hot water circulating. this may be different with the FFRR and it may have a small pump which would seem right but the water would still need to heat up before hand.

I believe that if there have been a number of false start errors logged the FBH will sit there and refuse to start. You may need to have the faults cleared for the unit to start working again. This happened on my RRS, as soon as the faults were cleared the FBH was fine.

What caused those faults though simon as faults dont often come up on their own?

Did they come back more importantly?

Kingpleb, on my RRS it was failed starts that knackered it. I think if it fails to start 3 times in a row then you will need to clear the ecu in order for it to work again. Come to think of it I believe that we also replaced some fuel line to the FBH to prevent it happening again. The FBH in the RRS is essentially the same unit as in the FFRR but without the timers and remote (in some cases). Mine was a 55 plate and the FBH only came on with the engine and then only when the ambient temperature was less than 4 degrees. When it was really cold last winter the FBH was running constantly to supply enough heat for the demands the HVAC was putting in just to keep my lardy arse warm...

I've now done more testing and can confirm that the remote starts the fans OK but the FBH doesn't fire up. The fans then run for a few mins and stop, presumably because the FBH isn't getting warm.

So, it's broke. Is there a DIY solution? Graham

On my TD6, computer screen the general menu screen only shows Aux. Ventilation, no reference to Aux. Heating.
This means I can't select the FBH even though it is fitted to the car.
Anybody come across this by any chance and if so how do I get the Aux Heating function to display?

Graham, I believe that you can 'force' a start cycle by putting 12v across a couple of the pins in the connector to the FBH.

2 issues;

1 where is the FBH? I expected it to be at the front nearside of the engine compartment a la RRS & D3, but on my TDV8 there is a large black plastic box and I have no idea if the little webasto unit is in there.

2 not certain which pins to apply the voltage to? Possibly you should have a quick look on the D3 site as they are an industrious lot over there and I am sure someone will have done a write up. If the heater units are the same then the wiring will be the same. if they are different then you would be able to get a wiring diagram from webasto's own site I believe

The LR spec FBH's can't be run manually by applying 12V or ground to a control pin, they would require a chat to a controller or diagnostic package over WBUS (Webasto Bus).

Yes, I have a D3 as well, so the side by side comparison is possible... I couldn't find the FBH on the FFRR.

I probably won't fiddle with it, will have to pay an expensive visit to my friends at Lookers. Graham

In the d3 wiki that Martin kindly linked, it does mention that removing the fuse for a few minutes may encourage the FBH to come back to life. Have you tried this yet? Got to be worth a try before you have to pay someone to put it on a diagnostic machine

The wiki also suggested trying removing the plug on the heater if the fuse alone did not work. Bring as we are both clueless as to where th FBH actually is located the fuse will have to do Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Right, fuse out and car asleep for a couple of hours. Fuse back in. Slept again.

Hit the remote, car wakes up, light on dash flashes, fans start..... and stop after a couple of mins. No fuel burn.
