United Kingdom 2016 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Baltic Blue

Ive just taken my Nov 2015 L405 into LR MD to have this looked at. They told me anything before 2016 is an automatic swap for new. 2016 onwards, they inspect and change if necessary.

My21 affected?

Someone asked if this is an issue on late L405s. I found a picture of what seems to be a cracked knuckle on a my21 D350 Autobiography for sale in Italy. It looks similar to the crack on Christian and Veras car.

Pics in my gallery

Duckworths replaced both sides, service manager great to deal with.

L494 - Cracked Knuckles Too

Hey everyone — just wanted to add my experience here.

I’ve discovered the same issue on my 2015 L494. I know this is an L405 forum, so sorry if this is off-topic, but both models seem to use the same part.

My driver’s side knuckle is nearly split in half, and there’s a small crack forming on the passenger side. This is a major safety issue. I recently bought the truck from a family friend, drove it 200 miles home, and now I keep thinking about what could’ve happened if the knuckle had failed at 70 mph.

The truck has a full dealership service history with every service done since new. It’s only got 50k miles, has been garage-kept, and is in mint condition. If there was ever a case for this being a manufacturing defect and not abuse or neglect, this is it.

I reached out to my dealership, who recommended contacting JLR Customer Care. The rep was helpful and suggested two things:

File a report with NHTSA (U.S.)

Have the truck flatbedded to the dealership for an official diagnosis. JLR will review the diagnosis to potentially cover the repair.

So far, the L494 isn’t included in the recall, but it’s a work in progress. I really hope JLR addresses this. The potential cost is frustrating, but it’s nothing compared to the risk of a catastrophic failure.

Thanks to everyone who has posted about this — it’s been really helpful. I’ve attached photos of my knuckles. (the passenger side is really hard to see the crack) If it's allowed, I’ll keep posting updates as I go through the process with the dealer and JLR.
