United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 V8 Sumatra Black

Today I have been mostly...

Changing the rear hatch struts.

Changed the non functioning high level brake light. It was so sun scorched it looked like it had been sand papered.

Swapped over the start stop switch. The replacement had a silver bezel, so had to gut the new one just for the push button bit, but all good and matches the glove box switch bezel.

Removed the ugly front window wind deflectors.

They're such easy cars to work on for minor incidentals like these. No wonder those us who can do a bit of spannering love them.

You wouldn't get this much satisfaction from a Tesla.

Went to get the car out for a big shop of animal feed and found it had a flat. B****y hell. Pumped it up and rolled it out of the way to reach my lightweight to take instead. More practical vehicle for the task as took nearly double usual amount of feed, though being so loaded the return journey wasn't as serene as the ff would have been. Once at home and unloaded took wheel off ff and found it has double puncture. Grrr. Other tyres all look clear...Hoping they're pluggable.....

Spent a couple of hours taking out the air boxes, cleaning them inside and out, cleaning the MAF sensors and fitting a new filter. Nr1 wasn’t too bad to be honest and nr2 filter was as expected, virtually pristine, so popped that in nr1 and the new filter in Nr 2.

Also went to change the pollen filter and that was virtually new, so popped it back in and put the new one on the shelf with the spare air filter.

Whilst the air boxes were out I put some Fetran rust converter on a few little areas that were showing slight signs of rust. Mainly the relay bracket and the area under Nr 1 filter box. I was actually quite impressed at how little rust there was in the engine bay.

Tomorrow I’ll be sucking the oil out, replacing it and sticking in a new filter and then on Thursday it’s off to the Indy to get all the transmission fluids changed and a good old check over.

Still lots to do including ordering new screws for the air boxes.

United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Firenze Red

Fitted new brake pads front and rear.
Rears weren't too difficult. One piston a bit difficult to wind back. The pads on that side were more worn than the other side.
The fronts seemed to be going ok... I know, thanks to the wisdom of others on this forum, that the Brembos can be challenging. Then, at the last pin (the centre pin on the drivers side) it was stuck fast. Having seen that others had cut the pin to remove the two halves separately I resorted to that, and it still took an awful lot of hammering but eventually it came out. I don't think I would have had the confidence to do it if I hadn't seen others do it, so I owe the forum a pint!
Changed the bleed nipples too, as they all looked manky. And the wheel cap centres too.
Took me all day, but as an amateur I'm really quite pleased with myself! I think I spend more time working on this car than I spend driving it!

Didn’t get round to changing the oil yesterday as the battery was too weak to start the car. A new battery should have been delivered last Thursday and finally arrived today. Got home from work and did some preliminary dismantling ahead of the swap over tomorrow - hooray for WFH.

Used the T30H Torx for the ECU security plate and yes, I had to buy the Laser 5301 security Torx set just to get that one Torx. The plate was showing some light signs of surface rust, so being a bit OCD I sanded, primed and satin blacked it, so it’ll look nice when it goes back in.

I do love little jobs like this.

Also dropped in to see my paint guy on the way home from work and he got underneath and had a look at the jacking points and sills. He popped back up with the comment that it wasn’t actually that bad and didn’t need any major surgery. He does at least 1 Fatty a month and has done for many years, so happy to trust his judgement.

Today’s little jobs were replacing the bonnet struts and putting the new battery in. Also cleaned up the screen on the new dual view display unit which arrived today.

Decided to replace the blower motor whilst the dash top is off, so ordered a new Nissens unit- it’s mildly noisy, but not unobtrusive, but for the cost of a new one, it’s good for peace of mind.

Replaced a further 4 swollen SS wheel nuts, no external signs of swelling or damage, just can't get the socket on them, luckily bought 10 in advance.

Lightly wirebrushed and repainted the rear arch leading edges in Kurust to protect them as looks like a bit of surface rust where the underseal had worn off.

Once dried liberally painted over with 2 coats of Nitromoors Smooth Metal Finish to protect against further wear.

It looks like with the constant opening and closing of the rear doors the seal has been rubbing off the underseal protection I put on last time so replaced that with something more hardwearing.

Glad I discarded the Freelander trims so if it comes back I can see clearly.

Also replaced rear discs, pads and wear sensor.
