Here's a funny one.

This only happens occasionally, mostly on one bit of road on a slight incline, when pulling away from a junction.

I hear a small grinding or rumbling noise from the back somewhere. It sounds almost like something rolling around on the boot floor, but there is nothing. I notice it most days at one specific junction near work. I stop at the junction, and as I gently pull away, I hear the noise.

I get it now and again elsewhere. But it's mainly at the one place.

Now that is not as daft as it sounds. I had a knocking noise a few months ago that sounded like a bush worn somewhere. The main dealer couldn't find it and inferred it was in my head. In the end, I took a mechanic out to the only bit of bumpy road I knew I could replicate it, and we all heard it. They found it and fixed it.

I am thinking of something driveshaft or propshaft related. Like a joint has play and only rumbles in certain situations. I wondered if this was something anyone else has encountered and if anyone might be able to speculate what it might be? 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography in black

Do a search for transfer box issues/servicing.

I believe replacing the fluid and resetting the clutches resolves it.

I just found a topic on it that described it as a judder, that's a fair description. The topic said "Transfer box - every 5 years or 60k miles, whichever is first" - mine has done 65k, so it must be due. Assuming never done.

I have something similar, it's an occasional thump which I thought was coming from rear diff.

Had it in for a look, diff apparently ok , no apparent issues there, however all 4 ARC bushes are shot, they reckon the noise is them moving about under certain load.

Getting all 4 replaced early next month, will report back.
