L322 2011 Reverse Camera and Parking Radar questions

Hi All.

First post so go easy on me! Very Happy

I have just replaced the factory head unit in my 2011 L322 with an android unit from China. The unit itself was pretty much plug and play and is working mostly as expected and I’m very happy with it for the price. It maintains the 4x4 info and the steering wheel controls work.

My car has the Logic7HD set up and the factory surround camera system - I expected only the rear camera to work which is the case.

My question relates to the camera/radar. When the reverse camera is active I still get the factory reverse lines and the proximity/radar sensors which is good but I also get the back and nav buttons and a “touch image for further options” button which obviously doesn’t do anything now and looks a bit out of place. What I’d like to know is what is adding those buttons and is there a way to disable them - I assume it’s not built into the camera image? Is there a module? Can this be coded out with the Gap tool?

The factory reverse camera isn’t great quality - I’m not sure if it’s worse than it should be - I have considered replacing it but it doesn’t seem possible to get a new upgraded plug and play unit. If I do go for an aftermarket unit and make it work would I be able to keep the factory radar and reversing lines? Or if I get a new camera is there a way to make the factory parking sensor/radar talk to the android head unit - it has the option to show its own radar overlay with an image of a car but it doesn’t show any activity at the moment.

Any advice or experience would be appreciated.

Thanks
Acecross

There isn’t an option for NTSC - not that I’ve found yet anyway.

There is an option to switch from TV1 to AHD - I assume this is for a more modern camera.

It appears that AHD can use NTSC signals so try AHD.

Hi Acecross.

I too have the HD audio system. Did you have any problems with the connections? Are all the connections to the new unit in the dash or did you have to run cables anywhere else?
Thanks

There is one power cable and one optical cable that you have to disconnect in the passenger footwell and a new cable goes from the new head unit to these cables - the cable on the head unit is longer so it isn’t a problem. All the other cables are behind the head unit. It’s not too complicated. It sounds really good - I’m really very happy with it.

Thank you very much for that. It sounds very good.
One final question; can you fit the side trims from the original head unit to the new one for that OEM look?
And, I take it that you bought your unit from Ali Express?
I’ll shut up now!

Yes you can fit the side trims. It fits in the factory radio ‘cradle’. The grey of the radio surround on the new unit is perhaps a little more shiny than if it were a perfect match but it’s pretty good.

Yes I got it from Ali Express. If you want a link then happy to drop you a message. I have no vested interest - it was just the one with the most convincing sales page!

If anyone can answer my questions above it would be appreciated ☺️
