I have successfully made it worse. Restricted performance warning I expected but not coolant Censored out from somewhere near the thermostat housing. At least it fired up. It can wait a few weeks as my mind turns to holiday in Spain and happier vibes.

Refreshed and now over the post-holiday blues, another look at this leak. It is not coming from the hose I suspected, but I am fairly sure it is from the right hose where it goes into thermostat housing. There is no seal listed so I guess it is part of the hose and this is only serviced as the assembly.







In the meantime, I have cleaned the OE intake hoses x 4 and fitted them to the doughnut in preparation.

Thus, is it possible to fix the leak without buying the hose assembly which is around £480? 2012 Vogue TDV8 in Aintree green

Try a search, the hose may have an o ring that can be replaced.

The O rings duly arrived and fitted to both large hoses. I decided against changing the little one as it wasn't leaking but I have a pack of 5 in case.

The new one is on the right:

There is just enough space to pull back the hose and hook out the old O ring:

The good news is that the leak has gone. The bad news is that the restricted performance is still there with the original intake hoses to the doughnut. Poo.

I took it for a whirl but not long enough for it to reach the middle of the temperature gauge. I topped up with the last of the coolant I have and I will check it tomorrow. I suspect I may need some more.

Rewind to the original reason for doing all this caper is that the thermostat is suspected of sticking/not opening as I have had a couple of overheating warnings. That is still not yet known to be fixed with this job. 2012 Vogue TDV8 in Aintree green

I have just checked and the coolant level is stable at where I left it yesterday but it is a touch below the mark. I have checked all the vacuum lines are all in place. I could adjust the 4 x intake hoses to see if I have a leak there.

The restricted performance message appears with the ignition on before cranking. More research required. 2012 Vogue TDV8 in Aintree green

This lunchtime I have undone the doughut hoses and centralised them in case I had a leak. Hopefully that rules those out.

I removed the intake host to the TB and added a third O ring, as per other threads on the matter. I am not sure if it has sealed fully as I am not strong enough to ram home for the click, so back to 2 O rings.

Then I thought what if I had damaged the TB itself? I recorded this when the ignition is switched on. Hopefully this is normal:



Re-checked all the vacuum lines - nothing is disconnected at any rate. Thus, I need to read some codes now. I still have not managed to buy a GAP tool but I have been offered the loan of one, so that is the next step. 2012 Vogue TDV8 in Aintree green

Check the electrical connection to the sensor on top of the Secondary Turbo air filter box. I have had restricted performance come up a couple of times and after fiddling with connector it clears. Engine runs ok after that. -----------------------

It was certainly worth trying. I have unclicked and reclicked the air sensors on the air filters and the one on the doughnut to no avail. I did clean the doughnut one with brake cleaner - hopefully that hasn't broken it.

I took it up to the supermarket and back at a very slow pace and then around an industrial estate with the heater off and it reached temperature without overheating but I really need it at full chat on the motorway without the restricted performance to be certain.

I should pick up the code reader next weekend and then a week away so it may be a couple of weeks before I know more.

In other news, I have low battery warning for one smart key and the other has packed up completely. I put new batteries in both soon after I bought it. Is this normal service life? 2012 Vogue TDV8 in Aintree green

Have I stumbled across my issue whilst reviewing my snaps? I realised that I had not replaced the broken connector still in my tool box in the boot. I was too hamfisted with it and it broken away from whatever to which it was connected. Numpty.

It is the fuel pressure sensor on the LH rail which no doubt would not help proceeedings if not plugged in. I managed to connect the harness to the broken plug but I cannot connect this to the sensor. Happily, both sensor and harness are listed separately.








The sensor appears fairly generic at around £40 (LR020693) but there are no harnesses (LR042445 supersedes to LR112662) on eBay at sensible money.

I think I have found how to release the fuel pressure, according to the manual:

"After engine shut down the common rails are maintained at a high pressure ready for the next engine start. Pressure will only fall to zero as you start to release the first pipe union, so care must be taken to prevent fuel leakage and contain any fuel losses until the fuel pressure has dissipated" 2012 Vogue TDV8 in Aintree green

I have the sensor now but I am wary about de-pressuring the rail. Is it as simple as undoing the sensor? Hmm.

I found the procedure in the end. The file name was spelled incorrectly.

Whilst it does not specify exactly, it says to undo this pipe first presumably to de-pressurise, throw it away and renew. I found a new pipe on eBay for £16 so for that price I have ordered it. Plus it is too cold today.
