Scotland 2012 Range Rover Westminster TDV8 Fuji White

Finished changing out my leaking oil cooler for new Nissins unit today, bought new gaskets but didn't need them as the new unit came complete, so some spares up for grabs, I'll put up for sale at a discount later.

Also took the oportunity to replace all the oil, coolant etc. root around for anything untoward, nothing found really all of the pipes in excellent condition.

Couple of lessons learnt there so I'll add to the wiki guide:

1. the wee 18mm x 2.5 mm washer inside the right angled water junction on the cooler was perished so 2 day delay while a replacement arrived, did change the 2 small ones on the cooler rear though, should have got this one with the other bits Doh ! I also cut off that pipe clamp and replaced with a spring clip as it's easier to remove the water pipe from the connector due to other metalwork in the way, then take off the connector sans pipework as you want to be changing the O ring on the bench not in situ and definately don't want to be losing that spring clip.

2. The rear steel bracket that the plenum sits on, has 4 vertical studs and 2 horizontal ones, the two horizontal threaded studs way too long and hard to get it off without risking breaking something, so cut them down to 1cm long. Much easier, why they were 3cm long, no idea.

3. Tip, must remember not to tilt the oil cooler when removing it and put it staight into a bucket, there is still about 1/2 litre of oil and water in there, which I found when I inverted it for a look. so spent a while cleaning up the driveway with her indoors somewhat miffed at the mess.

So far all good, spilt oil will burn off over the next day or so even though soaked everything in brake cleaner.

Let's hope that's an end to it.

Today the Bronze Beast chilled out transporting its garage buddies RV8 Triumph Stag and Triumph Spitfire from their old home to their new one.
Great towing vehicle made light work of this task. 2 x 88 mile round trips in comfort and no dreaded red triangles!

Replaced front diff oil, not sure when it was last done, nothing in the records, but man, the oil that came out stank to high heaven.

Rear diff tomorrow if I can get the plugs out.

Just dropped my motor off at Newbury Transmissions for a gearbox service, got 110k on the speedo and wasn’t done by previous owner so I thought a bit of preventive maint might be a good thing. L322 TDV8 4.4 - current

Collected from MOT with a "Pass with Defects", never had one of those before.

The defect was one of the Number plate lights. What was interesting is that this did not flag up on the info screen until I removed the lamp.

I had replaced these for LED's a while back, so the moral is just because you don't have a message it goes not mean the led is working.

My 2013 has only done 2k miles since last oil change but when I checked the oil level recently it appeared to have gone up. And I was getting a service message.

So today I did an oil change and sent the oil for analysis….

Visited the Game Fair at Blenheim Palace. Car park was full of JLR products but no sponsorship or even a stand in the show itself. The Ineos Grenadier had a heavy presence however.

Took the plunge and replaced all the mounting fixings on both the engine undertray and the underchin cover with stainless ones.. Also whilst they were off treated the entire subframe and area again in Nitromors rust treatment, undersealed everything steel with Tetroseal and Waxoyled the lot including inside the subframe tubes where possible.

Rest of the car still looking fine since done in the spring, really messy job, but some old decorating sheets saved spoiling the driveway.

Noticed a small oil leak, it's coming from above the starter / drip on the NS drive shaft as well, it's not the top, OS or rear of the engine or anywhere around the cooler or oil pump as I got the endoscope out, it looks like it's around the turbo but I could spot it exactly. Just a drip on the lower gearbox case and the NS driveshaft so I'm not planning on ripping the car apart for that, but I will keep an eye on it.

Made the most of a dry day. Polished both front headlights and fitted an original 2007 front grille I managed to find on EBay. Finished off by putting Lanoguard underneath. Next, painting front brake callipers. Thumbs Up

Just messing about with the GAP tool today, decided to offset the woeful DRL on the 2012 models by setting the DRL in GAP to Scandinavian Mode, so lights are on all the time front & rear.

Rather that than get the naff fog light angel eyes that seem to be so popular now.
