much ado about rear suspension overhaul

Anyone know why these things cost like £150 a pop?

Is there any alternatives?

Also what would be recommendation for parking brake shoes.

Alternatives, no doubt the purists will squeal a bit but if its the front ones I'd just cut the rusty one off and forget about it and if the problem ids the back brakes where the pins for parking brake shoes pull through the rusty backplate, I've just used a large flat washer and small bolt with a nyloc nut on it to replace the LR locating pin.

I would just bite the bullet and do it properly. Imagine where your car will be in a few years time if you just bodge all of the jobs to save a buck. I don't think any of us here bought these cars thinking they are cheep to fix or run. Big Cry 2010 RR Autobiography 5.0 SC

As CASS stated you need the dust shield because it retains the hand brake pins. But you also need the shields to stop all the road grim from gumming up the brakes. Not having these would leave to more money having to be spent in repair work because of caused problems than that of the price of new shields. 2010 RR Autobiography 5.0 SC

You will need to unbolt the rear knuckle joints and so while at it you might as well replace the bushes at the same time. It's a more time consuming job than anything. Genuine bushes are only about £25 each. 2010 RR Autobiography 5.0 SC

oh am going for the entire rear end rebuild. unfortunately the car is a rust bucket so

so hoping to get the knuckle out, all the control arms out, got more or less brand new everything sat in the garage.

getting the halfshaft out of the hub is currently taking up the time, well that and this Censored weather

i need to wait on the rear calipers to be rebuilt and painted so thankfully i have time. Its actually a sport Sad

I always think, as long as you have sound chassis, anything else that goes rusty or faulty can just simply be unbolted and replaced.
It does sound like by the time you have finished you will have a car to be proud of and enjoy! Thumbs Up 2010 RR Autobiography 5.0 SC

That's the awkward one. To replace the hand brake cable, it goes back to the module mounted on top of the rear subframe and I think that needs to be lowered to get to it. So however you look at it, it's a sod of a job and would need to be done on a ramp. 2010 RR Autobiography 5.0 SC

I've started to track this headache of a jobo.

https://photos.app.goo.gl/1h8JQCzksHQpiUjCA

if it starts to take the Censored think ill yolo it and just buy a hydraulic press Laughing

given the amount of rust/dirt everything is getting wire wheeled down to metal and then some rust converter then some hammerite.

i have new hubs but am torn whether to get new shafts as well. Its actually a sport Sad
