Is it worth doing an egr deleted at 100k+?

Hi all,

Have a tdv8 that I purchased recently.

When I bought it and ran a diagnostic it had the error code exhaust gas recirculation sensor c circuit low.

The car has 114k 3.6tdv8 (2010)

Local reputable company near me called midlandremap are quoting me £150 for EGR delete and a map out... States they would delete the EGR in the closed position.

Is it worth doing?

Thanks guys, I spoke to them and they don't put blanking plates on... Just ag EGR delete. Is it still worth doing?

The EGR system is there for various reasons.
It's to do with getting the engine (or some components) temperature down under certain circumstances.

I've read quite a lot about it and decided to leave it on and functioning.
I also run a Vivaro van which has its EGR working and it has been working fine the past 266000kms.

It does benefit from "clearing the system" as I call it which is a good run down the motorway.

If it gets "deleted in one form or another your car might fail its MOT ?

I blanked the EGR on mine at ~150k miles. Straight away it idled better, the tip-in response improved (when you initially open the throttle) and MPG improved by a small amount.

And the biggest improvement is oil stays cleaner for longer.

I suspect if I’d cleaned the intake out I’d see further improvements on the first bits too.

Irrespective of the legality or performance changes ( good or bad) the EGR valves on the 3.6 engine have a nasty habit of failing and parts being sucked into the turbo and possibly the engine so for this reason alone it probably worth doing. I'd physicaly blank them as these older EGR valves have been known ( on other cars at least) to stick open so a software delete alone won't help you. Blanking kits are cheap to buy and if you have a GAP IID tool you can buy a software update to do the software delet yourself. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)
