It would carry more weight and cost less if all of you on here got together and started a joint action against JLR, It would also be better for DVSA to have a group contact them with the same issue.

Hi, I am new to the site, this happened to me yesterday on a country lane, front nearside went.
I could see the sheared knuckle clamp dangling behind the wheel.
I had my son in the car, very concerning.

RAC eventually (12 hours) transported to main dealer, main dealer has yet to respond.

I'd be appreciative of any suggestions or advice.

Thanks

Glad youre all OK, lumps of metal can be repaired / replaced.

It seems theres a recall if you look back through this thread, you should invoke whatever procedure is needed and get the work done at JLR's expense. IMHO they should cover recovery and any consequential damage too. BMW i3 Electric Car

I have had correspondence with JLR-USA and their Global Customer Service, which so far has proven extremely unsatisfactory.

Their latest claim, after saying repeatedly that there is no recall in the USA and therefore no problem, is to say that the internal engineering department determined that no recall was necessary in the USA and that is that.

They have failed (yet) to answer the question as to why this is a safety concern resulting in a recall in the UK, Canada, Saudi, , ??, but NOT in the USA.

I find this to be negligent.

Anyone know a good class action attorney that might be interested? There's plenty of cases in the USA and I think we should team up.

Here's an update.
I contacted LR CLient (don't) Care who replied :

"Unfortunately, we would not look to provide support towards this repair due to the age of the vehicle and as the VIN is not covered by the recall action.
Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience caused and I appreciate this may not be the response you were hoping for however I hope you understand the position of Jaguar Land Rover.
If you are unhappy with the outcome provided to you by Jaguar Land Rover, I would like to suggest that you make contact with The Motor Ombudsman, who are an independent arbitration service that will be able to outline your rights under the circumstances."

My main dealer was shocked by this but unable to elevate the issue in LR.

I'm £4.5k lighter having had no choice but to pay for the repair. I asked LR what measures were in place for the driver side as I was now afraid to drive the car. They did not reply.
My main dealer found that the driver side arm was cracked.
Looks like overtightening & corrosion.
What could I do? I've been without a car for a month.

I was able to confirm that this part is not subject to any maintenace or checks in any service. My most recent service was 8yrs, 112,000 miles even though I'm at 64,000 miles with full MD service history from new.

I've reported to Ombudsman (no response) and DVSA (LR given 28 days to reply).

I can't leave this here, I have to find some recourse.

If anyone can advise of any action, contacts in LR and/or solicitors who can help, it would be much appreciated.

This fault is so dangerous, it could be fatal. Every day I am grateful that I was only doing 30mph.

Thanks in advance.

Good point. It's 2015. I bought it as a main dealer ex-demo in Jan 2019 with 30k on clock. It's now done 64k and has full main dealer service history.

So presumably April-October. It’s not the only failure outside the VIN range, even looking on here.

Hi Philip, yes, I called up so called Client Care and suggested that LR have been known to use whatever parts are available and it's quite possible that my car was assembled using the same parts as the vehicles in the VIN range recalled and/or overtightened due to incorrect torque settings in the same way. The person I spoke to said that she couldn't comment on that, only that LR did not intend to help in any way with this problem. It was a complete brick wall. My main dealer said that they were surprised by this as they have experience of LR being more helpful in the past.
Don't really know what to do next.
Cheers

I would suggest a letter to VOSA or the modern day equivalent outlining the situation, a recall is in play but it seems that there are more vehicles outside the VIN range JLR declared. That should spur them into action and instruct JLR to expand the Vin range.
The response for JLR is truly shocking and it's only a matter of time that one of these failures will result in a serious injury or fatality. Their response to your case is incredible in view of full service history - ex demo car etc. BMW i3 Electric Car

As what's meant to be a premium 'brand' they really aren't doing themselves any favours, are they?

Shameful imo

Anyone in JLR with any sense would at least investigate this further, I cant believe they are so stupid.
The brand is totally tarnished by the current security issues and the consequent problems with sky high Insurance premiums.
Now with this well known potential death trap, which they have finally acknowledge with a VIN range recall. Not only has it trashed the Range Rover image, its brought major doubt to all its current customer base.
Now owners who thought they were outside the VIN range are again (as we speak Mad ) nervously on their knee's checking for cracks.

@Andy27 As its been serviced exclusively by JLR MD, all of its working life, ask/demand a full print out of all its service history/warranty history with all recalls/brake downs etc At least you will have more information at your disposal.

We all can see the service history on https://osh.landrover.com but its the customer clean copy Whistle
The customer rarely see's the workshop history etc for warranties etc

Example my car was in for a warranty issue which lasted several weeks, this generated an A4 file 2-3cm thick - they wouldn't give me a copy of this.
Every time it's in the workshop for any above there is a work history file.

Questions you can ask if any work previous to your purchase involved the suspension etc.
Why does the failure suggest it's been overtightened? When did your workshop over tighten these?
Do you know how far are you outside the VIN range.

This can be useful for your case with DVSA and your lawyer (if you go down that route).

When did JLR warranty end?

Have you kept the parts? Can they be sent away for failure analysis? this report would be very useful.
Read this full thread and believe there was another thread and do a forum search.

JLR will know exactly what the situation is, you’re just not going to find out. It’s obviously a big and expensive recall process, so the risk vs cost conversations will have been had a long time ago.

Refitting what appears to be the exact same design of part that failed before must surely also be a cost decision, given there are examples of 2018 cars with snapped knuckles from the small sample on here. Assume the cost of re-engineering would be catastrophic.

Maybe it could be JLR’s Pinto…
