I have had correspondence with JLR-USA and their Global Customer Service, which so far has proven extremely unsatisfactory.

Here's an update. I contacted LR CLient (don't) Care who replied : "Unfortunately, we would not look to provide support towards this repair due to the age of the vehicle and as the VIN is not covered by the recall action. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience caused and I appreciate this may not be the response you were hoping for however I hope you understand the position of Jaguar Land Rover. If you are unhappy with the outcome provided to you by Jaguar Land Rover, I would like to suggest that you make contact with The Motor Ombudsman, who are an independent arbitration service that will be able to outline your rights under the circumstances." My main dealer was shocked by this but unable to elevate the issue in LR. I'm £4.5k lighter having had no choice but to pay for the repair. I asked LR what measures were in place for the driver side as I was now afraid to drive the car. They did not reply. My main dealer found that the driver side arm was cracked. Looks like overtightening & corrosion. What could I do? I've been without a car for a month. I was able to confirm that this part is not subject to any maintenace or checks in any service. My most recent service was 8yrs, 112,000 miles even though I'm at 64,000 miles with full MD service history from new. I've reported to Ombudsman (no response) and DVSA (LR given 28 days to reply). I can't leave this here, I have to find some recourse. If anyone can advise of any action, contacts in LR and/or solicitors who can help, it would be much appreciated. This fault is so dangerous, it could be fatal. Every day I am grateful that I was only doing 30mph. Thanks in advance.

Good point. It's 2015. I bought it as a main dealer ex-demo in Jan 2019 with 30k on clock. It's now done 64k and has full main dealer service history. |

So presumably April-October. It’s not the only failure outside the VIN range, even looking on here. |

Hi Philip, yes, I called up so called Client Care and suggested that LR have been known to use whatever parts are available and it's quite possible that my car was assembled using the same parts as the vehicles in the VIN range recalled and/or overtightened due to incorrect torque settings in the same way. The person I spoke to said that she couldn't comment on that, only that LR did not intend to help in any way with this problem. It was a complete brick wall. My main dealer said that they were surprised by this as they have experience of LR being more helpful in the past.

I would suggest a letter to VOSA or the modern day equivalent outlining the situation, a recall is in play but it seems that there are more vehicles outside the VIN range JLR declared. That should spur them into action and instruct JLR to expand the Vin range.

Anyone in JLR with any sense would at least investigate this further, I cant believe they are so stupid.

JLR will know exactly what the situation is, you’re just not going to find out. It’s obviously a big and expensive recall process, so the risk vs cost conversations will have been had a long time ago.
