United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Stornoway Grey

Just found this on another post:

Quote:
Called the Land Rover assist who arrange for the technician to meet me at my house about 2 hours later.
He opened the bonnet removed the engine cover and removed the MAP sensor. He said it was quite common. he showed me the sensor which had a thick layer of soot on it, about 3mm. He cleaned it with brake and clutch cleaner and replaced it, he put it on the computer and cleared the fault message and all good.

. Cheers, Greg

I have cleaned my MAPF sensor several times with spray brake cleaner, seems to work well.

During an idle moment I removed the MAP sensor from the inlet manifold and even though I thought the car was going well, The sensor in the manifold was a solid lump of carbon , lots of brake cleaner later and re installed it with aa smear of silicon grease on the o ring . then starting up what difference ! idle improved and it went much better or was it all in the mind ! .
what worries me is i dipped a screwdriver in the hole ( as you do !) and it came out with a big lump of oily stuff now i am working up courage to remove the inlet manifold and clean it out and replace the rubber hoses ( 4 off ) .
which type standard or go for silicon ( red ) ? 2012 Black 4.4 TDV8

My favourite picture of what I got out my plenum chamber.
I put red silicone hoses on mine.

The hoses are 70mm internal diameter. Buy whichever you fancy - lengths are around £10-15. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

I'll be honest and if money was no object I'd just buy a new plenum chamber!!
Dirtiest job I've ever done. If you do do it get plenty of wire coat hangers, dish washing brushes, them long wire brushes, string to drag cloth through etc etc.

"I'm tempted to go the new plenum route....are they expensive?" They're about £500 quid for a genuine one. Luckily I didn't have to pay it. Encourage alternative fuels, use all the petrol!

It's a Chinese take away container. There was about half that much again. I was very concerned about the amount I got out but apparently it is quite 'normal' with EGR's and the like.

Just wondering if anyone knows on the right hand map sensor (looking into the bonet) should that be pulling in air in as in live data it's reading 0 where as the left is giving a measurement that turbo was replaced about a year ago only noticed it as trying to clean egr as keeps going in to restricted power due to egr temp sensor 118k tdv8 4.4 westminister
