Spikey62... could you clarify.... the link to report to DVSA.....is this just for people who have suffered a failure of can it be used for anyone concerned about future failures?

Dear Adrian
From my understanding you can only report failures that have happened via the DVSA site. It is straightforward and you just need vehicle information, current milage and milage when it happened and describe what part failed and what happened. Submit a photo too of the broken part and make sure you keep the original broken part when being replaced. Personally I kept both of mine and I will do a spray test on the whole one to check for microscopic cracks. I will let you all know if that works.
Reporting to DVSA is not substitute for making a claim to Land Rover. In this thread there is a current email address of them which should be used. I sent my claim again today as the previous one was not taking new claims. I will update when any news.

Just re-reading this and the other related threads on here, and the comments about it predominantly happening “at slow speed”. Is that perhaps because it HAS happened at high speed, but regrettably the victims are no longer with us, therefore unable to voice a complaint? Shocked “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

I'm not sure that is the case Gremlin, if it failed at high speed it would leave a very peculiar mark(s/scuffs on the road surface pre crash as this wheels 'flaps around' uncontrolled on the road surface that would give the Forensics who attend a clue that something broke pre impact, it could be identified further to a particular corner of the car which would narrow down any observations on failure points. This broken component should show tell tale marks of being cracked prior to failure. This was my area of business before I retired. First time FFRR owner

Reply received from LR UK Customer Experience Centre

Dear Mr Saunders,
Thank you for your email dated 8th and 12th June 2023.
Please allow me to apologise for the concerns you have experienced and any inconvenience this may have caused.
In regards to your concern, I can confirm I have checked for any campaigns against your VIN and there is currently nothing outstanding.
I appreciate there may be a campaign in another market however, we cannot process a repair under a recall which is not available in the UK market.
As the vehicle is well outside of it's manufacturers warranty, Land Rover are unable to provide financial assistance on this occasion.
I am sorry as I understand this may not be the answer you were hoping for however should you require further assistance, please do not hesitate to make me aware.

Not sure what my next move will be!

BTW does anyone have recommendations for a transport company (cover Gloucestershire) that will move my RR to the garage without making a fuss that the front wheel needs to be stabilised? The AA recovery chap was brilliant and just put a plastic skid under the affected wheel and winched it on and off with no drama, so I don't understand why the companies I have contacted so far have all had a fit of the vapours?

Next move :

Make a new topic : "joint lawsuit catastrophic failure of front knuckle due to corrosion".

Make it also on the RRS site, indicate BY 2014/2015/2016.

Ask for proof of this happening to them, repair bills.

When you have at least 20 people willing to jointly sue JLR, ask a lawyer / barristor / sollicitor (I never know whats/what in the UK..) to write a 'nice' letter, informing them they are about to have a lawsuit
based on documented failures and the recall in USA / Canada..

I think you have a strong case. Maybe a 'legally inclined' UK-member can be of assistance (pensioner ?). I-pace First Edition Santorini & 2nd car Mazda MX-30 Advantage red/black

@cotswoldsrchilly, if you try to find a local recovery garage who is on your police recovery scheme they should be able to assist as they'llll have lifts capable of lifting a heavy car, and attachments that can fit to the wheels (even if only half attached) and lift via the fittings, or skids /dollies to pull up First time FFRR owner

Sorry to hear your news. My claim was refused too as I had it done by my local garage as I had stopped going to the local LR dealership due to poor customer service.

I counted the number of actual failures in this group and I counted 12 and at least 2 had had a previous failure. This is just so bad. I am sure

I propose we now take some more exact action:

Create Facebook group - " The Knucklers" or if anyone has a better name let me know. The group will be a private group initially whilst we gather all the information. We should do this asap.

Each person list their failure with photos, videos etc and any correspondance you have had with JLR. State date, what happened, if any injuries and monetary damage if known. Make sure you hang onto your broken part.

I believe that some the motoring journalist like Honest John can be of some help here. Once we have the "package" together we will write a joint email with the case and see what he says. Someone even mentioned BBC - was it rogue traders program
Let know what you think. ideas are welcome.
Steen
PS: it might be speedier if we all joined Pauls Whatsapp group.

Hi all

Here is my current state of email correspondence with JLR...I have not pasted any chase ups (of which there were two nor any rubbish holding emails from them).

Good afternoon.

As the owner of an early L405 Autobiography I write to seek confirmation as to the current Jaguar Land Rover UK stance regarding the above subject.

As you aware a series of documented catastrophic failures have occurred due to a defective suspension component. You have sought to remedy the matter via recalls in a number of territories most recently Canada (Safety recall N759) however no such recall has been issued in the UK.

I would be grateful therefore if you could confirm to me please:

1. The exact VIN range where the defective components are known to have been fitted on UK Market vehicles and

2. Why no safety recall has been issued on affected vehicles in the UK.

I note your latest recall acknowledges the potential for a persons safety to be affected and therefore am concerned that I or my family may be at risk when using our Range Rover and why our safety is considered to be a lesser concern than in other territories.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you.

Regards

JLR 5th June 2023

I would like to apologise for the delay in responding to you.

When looking on our system there are no re calls on this vehicle, I can see you mention there has been a safety re call in Canada for the suspension knuckle failure. But there are no re calls inn the UK for this vehicle for the same issue. If you are experiencing issues with this on the vehicle, I would advise you to take the vehicle to an approved Land Rover retailer for them to diagnose the fault.

I remain available to assist further with any questions you may have.

A most excellent piece of subject dodging. First class.

Anyway here is my latest wording in response. I'l update as and when. Merry Christmas...

Me: 6th June 2023
Thank you for your reply however I would politely suggest you have not addressed either of the points / requests made of yourselves. My original email is attached again.

I am fully aware that no recall has been issued in the UK. The question raised (point 2 of 2 in my email of 15th Feb) in was.. why not, given it has been deemed appropriate to do so in other territories?

I also need to confirm that you have not addressed point 1 in my email i.e.. The exact VIN range where the defective components are known to have been fitted on UK Market vehicles.

The issue I have referred to is a serious one and not one likely to disappear. Looking at the documented failures thus far it is only a matter of time before somebody dies as a direct result of this failure issue.

I would like to hope it does not take another three and a half months to get a reply and further hope more consideration is given to what is specifically being asked rather than a high level less than useful response.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you in advance.

Here is a further ' Censored off' reply from JLR received last week...

Dear ,

Thank you for your email dated 6th June 2023

I would like to apologise for the delay in responding.

Recalls are decided with the support of the DVLA who set the regulations on recalls and relevant actions. Different territories have different criteria when it comes to reviews of recall. We cant comment regarding other territories we can only advise that at this time there is no recall against your vehicle for this matter.

We are not able to advise the VIN range for vehicles in connection to a recall. We would only advise if your vehicle is subject to a recall.

Jaguar Land Rover takes client safety as a priority and decisions around safety are reviewed and made in accordance with the Government guidance.

I remain available to assist further with any questions you may have.

Yours sincerely,

Katherine Murray

Send them this copy of a letter from DVSA to another victim from late 2022 and ask how long they are going to take to actually implement a recall they have been told to do back in 2022... we are now June 2023..

Steen

UPDATE ON MY DVSA FILE:

Got confirmation today from them that they are looking into it and asked me a few questions. At the same time I got confirmation that JLR has been served the 28 days notice to respond. The more people who reports to DVSA the more hassle JLR is getting.

Have of you spoken to BBC Watchdog, they love this sort of stuff, all it takes is 5 of you to get together, the researchers job is half done, especially as this is life threatening if one let go on a Motorway.

Once its in the public domain, JLR will sit up and take notice, anything that's going on with the DVSA will take an eternity, JLR will see to that, lots of time wasting back and forward.

I have just been to my local indi for MOT (L322), and he was just repairing virtually the same knuckle failure on an Evoque. Thought it might be worth mentioning it on this post ?

Evoque doesn't suffer in the same way as the 405

They suffer from galvanic corrosion of the bearing circlip and alu hub carrier, the aluminium corrodes away and the circlip falls out, and rattles around the inside of the brake disc Shocked
